Ive been out of the pc market for some time now and have no clue on what the latest trends and bang for buck systems are.

My son (11) is looking for a pc for his birthday. He says he wants it for starting to explore "coding", which is great, but I know most of the time will probably end up in playing games and other stuff.

I would appreciate some advice on best bang for buck options, with some future proofing, i.e future upgrades in a few years that will extend usability. Looking for a 5 year usability period at least.

A large screen is prerequisite, as it need to double as tv for movies etc.

What options and price range am I looking at?

This is basically impossible to answer without a budget. You're looking at R15,000 - R120,000 at a guess.

This would last him a long time and should be upgradeable in the future. You can get a PC for a lot less too, but AM5 is the only current generation which should support newer CPUs in the future.

You'd still need to add a monitor and peripherals. (This is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY overkill for an 11 year old, but fits the 5-year criteria nicely).

I was thinking around R10k?
You've definitely been out of it for quite sometime.

At new prices, throw in the assembly fee and the mouse and keyboard will make it like R11k

This guy has been on the forum for years. Reliable.
