You guys are quick, thorough and honest thank you for all the advice keep it coming!

Im actually wanting 2 machines and to be honest im impatient cause i've been struggling along with a piece of junk for the last year and a half. Is there a motherboard available that will accomodate both X2 and AM2 processors and RAM DDR400 and DDR2?

If so i could at least get one till things settle down then upgrade the first when getting the second.

<EDIT> Did some research prophecy have a few AM2 motherboards and seen very specific as usual. Prices on the AM2 cpu's seem relatively similar to 939 though.

Nother thing is a Phisics processor worth it?

why 2 of the same. build yourself a monster and upgrade the one you have. but dont upgrade it with a lot of cash. spend most of your money on the new one and get it good. and what if the resell value is R18000 your not gonna buy and sell the pc you gonna want to use it for the next 5 year...;)

X24800 is a waist of money,A 3800 will perform beautifully(Yes I own a DC)
Logitech Keyboard you pay double for when they all do the same thing, punch keys...
Paying double for the 7900GTX 512 is OVERKILL, the plain 7900 will cost half for perfect performance.
If you wait for DX10 you will be waiting till Q1 2007.
Asus is very stable, yes DFI has more options, but it's not like he needs them.

You could slash 7 grand easy off that.
:)
PS dont go getting tied up with Conroe and AM2,it's not time for that yet, specially not for a normal user.
Advice:Use it dont use it
:D

No, the cards actually give lower frame rates. What motherboard you running now? If you're still on AGP why not just go for a simple 6600GT AGP version? You'd get a serious boost with one of them.

What are your specs now?

Currently have a p4 2.6 on a D850MV intel board with 768mb PC800 RAM. Graphics card prolly the second biggest problem after ram being a 128mb geforce fx 5200

A very nice (and expensive:)) setup.
You could probly cut save a good few grand with MINIMAL performance loss real easily. IE...
X2 4400+
7900GT
standard Corsair/Kingston RAM

As some others have said go for a 7900GT its half the price for slightly slower gaming and you can easily overclock it to GTX levels.

7900GT overclock to 7900GTX? ->Not going to happen easily.

Anyway, I say wait. It may be hard using that rig, but wait I say. And no not for Am2, but for the Merom, which is getting released in a few weeks.
If you buy S939 now, it'll be your undoing. Conroe at stock speeds is quicker than yet to be release AMD FX-62!

I'd wait if I were you cause when you eventually want to change to Conroe you'll have to seel that 23K rig for R800! And I garuntee you as unfunny as it is now, it will be tragic then when it actually happens.

Been hunting around for info on the Duo 2 goodies and when they'll be released but come up with possibly June/July US launch. WHat does that mean for us here in SA?

I saw some reviews of the M2 on the net last night it does not look like there will be too much of performance improvement compared to the 939.

but at least you can upgrade it at a later stage, and im pretty sure games are going to start making full use or DDR2 now

Your biggest problem is your graphics card, and then your graphics cards. 5200 is absolute cr4p.

Upgrade to 6600GT for R1000.00 - system should last another year or so while prices come down and specs go up

Thats a lot of money to spend. You might as well get the Z5500 speakers instead of the X530 though.
