Hi,

ok so i took the plunge and ended up buying the quad 2 core pc from matrix, the IT dude set up everything for me and left and so i decided to install my old graphics card (didn't expect any probs) i installed it fine, installed all the drivers etc then re-started. here's the problem... the resolution is set to the minimum ! when i go into the settings tab and try to change it to the max or just higher it doesn't allow me to. it's stuck on 660 * 400 or something. can't get it to move above that... why ? i don't think its the drivers or the display settings, what else can it be ? the graphics card is brand new (about a month old) and woked perrfectly on my old pc. it's a msi n9500gt. the new pc is a quad to core intel Q2800 (i think) g31 mb etc

thanks in advance for the assistance.

Sounds like drivers to me, you sure you have installed the latest drivers?

i installed the drivers from the disk that came with the grachics card. it worked fine on my old pc when i installed it last month so i don't think it could be the drivers.

the resolution is set onto the minimum and you can see on the level that it can go higher, it just doesn't move the leveler to a higher position.

i'm stumped, gonna re-load xp and install everything again ...maybe that could work.
when i installed it last night it worked but i changed the resolution to the highest which was out of range, thereafter it became stuck on the minumum. should i change any settings on the monitor itself ??? it's a 17# fijutsu siemens wide (sp)

Well, doe sthe colour look right?
Sometimes if the GPU is not detected correctly, it will set your colour to 16, and then that is your max resolution.
I think your card is either not picked up correctly, there could be a software problem, or your GPU does not detect your screen correctly.

Check those first before you try to go the extreme route of re-installing XP.

If that is a G31 mobo, I think it does have an onboard GPU too, so there could be a conflic between the 2.
Have you change the bios settings to disable your onboard gpu?

no havent changed bios settings. BTW the monitor is the same i just upgraded the box.
i didn't change the bios because my previous pc also had onboard GPU which i didn't disable and it worked fine but i see your point! will try that as well. to answer your 1st question NO the colour isn't right at all...the backround is all blurred ...

Did you download the latest drivers like I suggested?

i will try that as well but i don't have the pc here to test...so i will look at all the suggestions and try it one by one, BTW were do i download the original msi n9500gt 512mb drivers ? i googled it without much luck :(

Don't bother with the originals, just get them from www.nvidia.com.

+1 driver issue.

You might want to take out the card and slot it back in again

Then d/l new drivers, some drivers may have conflicts with ur current hardware but not ur old one, its worth a try.

Unless ur card died coz of mishandling? :P
