So my trusty Logitech speakers are literally on their last legs. Only one speaker works and is very touch and go but I have had them for over 7 years so I can't complain :D

I now need to but a new set and I know Logitech are very good but I am looking for something else (unless that not a good option)?

I found these and they look quite nice: Edifier Luna Eclipse

Unless there is something better in that price range? Mostly used for listening to music, YouTube, games etc. I am looking for something that gives great sound in my budget (not more than R2k). My motherboard also seems to have an optical audio out so if there are normal speakers which will also work?

Let me know please.

Those Luna speakers seem to be back to normal price.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Going to read more about them now.

You think these are better than the wharfdale and edifier speakers?

Depends which wharfdale. But I do agree with going with studio monitors. PC Speakers are overpriced rubbish where the marketing is more important than the quality of the product being sold.

+1 crysis

Yeah, it would be nice if you can test out that speakers before buying them. Then you can decide which one sounds better to you. :)

I'll also recommend these: http://www.takealot.com/harman-kardon-soundstick-iii/PLID34166910
Heard them in-store, they are awesome. You also get a sub for low frequency sounds, especially if you love songs with bass. :p

Really like those speakers - friends of mine have them and they sound great. I see the price has come down quite a bit but they also sold out so price might change when stick arrives.

I think will rather save up a couple of months and buy a nice set of studio speakers. Especially seeing I listen to music a majority of the day

In the meantime, I bought a JBL Charge 2+ which I plan on using outside by the braai area and pool but for now will attach to PC via aux cable and use it till I get a more permanent solution or is that a bad idea?

After spending thousands on pc audio, my solution was decent bookshelf speakers with an amp and a dedicated sub.
I tried going for proper headphones aswell Sennheiser HD598's, AKG Y50's solved that trial :P
Used Logitech Z506, M Audio AV42's, Logitech Z5500 Digitals, and various 2.0 pc speakers etc. I listened to the Harman Kardon Sound Sticks III aswell, not impressed.

I do not consider myself an audiophile but you get spoilt when you venture to proper headphones imo.
I also use a JBL charge 2 +, great for vacation trips and for parties with friends. But not really suited for house parties if you know what i mean :D

Yeah this is the route I will be going.

The main reason I bought the JBL Charge 2+ is for outside use by the pool and when we go away.

I will see how it works when connected to PC now for the time being and then decide what speakers to purchase.

In just looking for good quality and nice sounding.

I'm going to recommend Corsair SP2500. I am not sure what the price is now (300$ on amazon seems a bit much) or whether you can even get them in SA still. I bought (for R2399) them to replace my logitech z2300 and found them to be better in every way. Getting studio monitors and subs is probably still a better option, but to get the same kind of sound as the SP2500 is going to cost a lot more. If you aren't worried about base just get a pair of active monitors as previously suggested.

i use a NAD 304 (R1000 off gumtree) with my B&W 302 speakers R1500 in 1996, i also use it outside - dual purpose

sounds awesome

My next upgrade is Qacoustics BT-3 bluetooth speakers or Dali Kubik's - think qacoustics will be cheaper...
or
Yamaha MusicCast...need to research it though - its all alot of money - anyway you look at it

Not sure why you not considering a 5.1 setup.

This was my initial thoughts but it won't work in my new home office - at least I don't think it will.

Another reason I am waiting before I purchase is for our new house to be finished so I can get a proper sense of how the office will be setup and then can decide on speaker setup but from what I can remember, 5.1 might not work.

99% usage will be music / YouTube and then the odd game. Slowly getting back into PC gaming so that percentage will change but a majority will still be music.

For a 5.1 setup i can heartily recommend the JBL cinema 610, i got a set from Remedytec on their birthday sale for R4000 i think. Currently using them in the bedroom paired with a hk avr 151.

I also looked at the Corsair SP2500's a while back, when Wootware still kept them. They were getting pricey at R3500. Would be way higher now since the Logitech Z906 is almost at R6k now

Had the Z2300, and Z906's, both were pretty terrible. 5.1 is useless unless its for a home cinema. My ultimate solution came to getting a pair of yamaha HS7's. but they do cost about R10k now. But, they fking rock.

I'm not so sure about this statement.
Just a question though, do you change the audio settings on a receiver often? Like from "music" to "movie" to all the other various settings? or just leave it on 1 preset?

No. Don't use 5.1. Most audio (99%) was mixed with stereo in mind. Adding more speakers to the mix ruins this original recording, And adds nothing to the experience. So why waste the money? It's a farce I tell you!
