Hi there all,

It seems like I might be getting a new PC After all. I just want to say thanks to all the people who have made this possible : nBk`Azazel, Nick from NGR, FRAG LAN, pretty much all the FiB'ers in Durban and also everyone has helped me out with advice I really do appreciate it.

Ok so here is what I have in possession at this moment.

Gigabyte 460W PSU
Transcend 2Gb DDR2 800Mhz RAM
Chaintech 512Mb 9600GT Overclocking Edition 512Mb
Biostar Motherboard - nForce630i
250Gb IDE Hard Drive (To be upgraded at a later stage, is supported by Motherboard)
IDE DVD-ROM (To be upgraded at a later stage, is supported by Motherboard)
Comstar Alien Case

OK so basically this leaves me with only a core to buy. My only aim with this pc is to achieve 125fps in cod on 1280x1024. What I want to know is, by buying a cheaper kind of processor - E2180 (Pentium D processor) will I be bottlenecking my system? Will I be able to play CoD at 125 Constant on that machine? Or is it a wiser move to save up for a Core 2 Duo E7200? Which is the cheapest Core2Duo as far as I can understand.

Please note I am sort of modeling this system on FiB~Craolia's machine, who is getting over 200fps constantly on all maps with the exact same motherboard, same RAM, same Seagate IDE Hard-Drive, exact same Graphics Card and a Core 2 Duo E6600.

Thanks for your time,
Vitro (Stephen)

um, honestly, that E7200 is a great processor, BUT because it is a 45nm processor, you must check and see if your mobo supports it, and it you can update the bios so that it can...

But from what i've read, that e7200 can reach 3.6 ghz, and if you drop the multiplier to say 8 and you run the cpu at 3200mhz, then it will be as fast as a e8600

edit:

um, is there any reason for you to run COD4 @ 125fps? that's a bid number, and all i can see is the game running @ 46 fps with max settings, and 4xAA and 16xAF... honestly, for that game, anything above 40 fps is where you wanna be, any lower and the game aint so nice...

You don't mention your monitor, but based on the resolution, it's either LCD or a 17/19" CRT. If it's CRT, then all those extra frames would be nice but semi pointless. If it's an LCD it's truly pointless, since LCD can't display more than 60 frames a second. Anything more and you start getting horrible tearing, which is fixed by enabling v-sync.

Anything between 40 and 60FPS is more than enough to give totally smooth motion and effects.

exactly, I mean, the game isn't as fast passed at unreal tournament, so you won't need those very high frames/ second
