Hey

I'm back home for the holidays and I need to build a new PC for my bro to use.
Ive just started looking around now and I need to find something thats going to last around 3 years. I already have a DVD drive, HDD and my old Antec 900 case to use.

PSU: Antec HCG 520w http://rebeltech.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=39_85&products_id=1497
RAM: Corsair Venegance 4GB DDR3 1600 x2 http://zones.co.za/
GPU: Asus ENGTX560 http://rebeltech.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=45_51_245&products_id=8677
Motherboad: Asus P867 Pro http://rebeltech.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=25_31_259&products_id=6454
CPU: i5 2500k http://rebeltech.co.za/index.php?ma...d=5702&zenid=a702042b66ca3a64bd9ba4289b264ac2

Ill keep the stock Intel cooler for now and then upgrade it later on when I need to overclock it.
What do you guys think about the above components so far? What changes would you make to get more bang for my bucks?

Thanks :)

I would not change anything on that build. Maybe check the Esquire pricelist as you should be able to get the Asus & Antec stuff from them, might save a few bob then you can get one of those coolermaster hyper 212 jobbies for the cpu.

Replace the GTX560 with a GTX560Ti. Unfortunately the Asus/Gigabyte GTX560Ti's are quite expensive.

Also, is there any particular reason why you'd want to go for that expensive Asus motherboard? And not like for a "cheapish" MSI P67A-C43?

LOL sorry about that. I wanted to say that you should replace that Asus GTX560 overclocked edition with a GTX560Ti.

Drop that GTX560 for a 6870 or 6950 or GTX560Ti.

cpu is out of stock at rebeltech just so btw :)

i will also replace the gpu with gtx 560 ti or hd6950

Goodness, the price of that motherboard. It is completely priced outside it's market.

Rather get Asus Z68-v motherboard, unless there is a specific reason you are thinking of that board?

EDIT: Oh I see, the Z68 board is more expensive because it is retail (they make R100 profit on the boards).

Given the prices of buying from that store, I would rather get an H67 motherboard then.

Overclocking is a waste of time IMHO, unless you do it for fun.

Overclocking is so not a waste of time, especially with the Sandy Bridge CPU's where you can gain so much more speed AND with the ease that you can do it.

But the question is, why?

Processor speed is hardly a problem anymore... Consider the price you spend on the extra power, the extra stress on components, the extra cost of cooling.

Err Esquire don't have P8P67 only H67 or Z68 and the sales guy didn't now what B3 revision means, they also didn't have Intel I5 2500k's the Antec HCG might also be a problem with them, Prophecy FTW !

I'm talking rebeltech here...

Which GTX560Ti must I get. I want this motherboard so I can comfortably over clock the machine later in its life, after buying an after-market cooler ofc.

I agree that you need a solid good quality mobo so that you can overclock properly. I would stick with the asus board you specified. A good alternative is the msi p67a-gd65.

Importers expect their retail resellers to know the products, not the "sales guys". That is why you need to have a dealer account to buy there. It is to expensive to hire tech savvy guys as the sales agents.

Also they never sold anything BUT the "B3" revisions. They didn't get SandyBridge until all these problems with the chipsets were solved.

Suit yourself however. You are still buying from Esquire, the only difference is, it is happening through a middle man.

B3 is the fixed SB mobo revision without the SATA issues.

Okay finally got everything sorted and I can buy the parts now. I'm just waiting on Wootware to tell me if they have stock of the Antec HCG 520w.
