Hi guys, a friend bought a new pc, but he's having trouble installing Windows.

He got the following components:
Biostar P45
E8500
Gigabyte 4870
Antec NeoPower 650watt

What happens is, each time he tries installing windows his pc bombs out right after loading all the XP drivers etc (before any user input is made)

He tried swopping out :
  • Windows disk
  • Ram
  • GPU
  • DVD-RW
  • HDD
, he tried running only one Ram stick, etc etc, but his pc always bombs out at the exact same spot...

Any ideas?

I used to have a problem like that and it was the ram after replacing my ram xp installed perfectly ! swop the ram with other ram and see what happens, or set all the bios settings to default and see again

He did that..

He swopped out RAM, ran only 1 stick etc etc. (Wonder if he tried a whole different RAM-brand though..?? Will ask him)

He also did a BIOS reset.

Could he try install vista and see if the same thing happens? not pushing vista just to see if its hardware or software, if vista runs fine means his drivers are a problem.

Has he tried downloading the latest drivers and not using the cd that came with the mobo?

That p45 biostar mobo is rated as one of the best in the business for overclocking, only good reviews for that mobo.

Perhaps use nlite to include the new drivers in a xp build? What do you think?
