Don't you hate it when you buy a new pc and when started up and you find that...

1.The pc manufacturer you brought it from had added additional (Useless) programs & features:rolleyes::rolleyes:
2.The pc manufacturer infected the computer with it's logo almost everywhere...
3.They don't provide a genuine windows CD/DVD and you have to burn a backup of the OS with all their glunk on it:rolleyes:

I miss the day where a PC just comes with a genuine windows CD/DVD and nothing extra :(

it still comes like that, just don't buy a name brand PC. Go into a shop and have one designed for YOU. it's cheaper and if you pick the right stuff you get better quality too.

But I get your point. laptops suck

This is such a bunch of crap, they should give out a proper CD/DVD with the computer one is buying.

I read somewhere that we don't even own the software that we buy, we only own the physical media that it came on, the software remains the property of whoever. This also applies to music.

The solution was simple for me.I had a tower, just bought me a mobo/cpu/vista business/memory and in it went, you dont have to be a scientist to build a pc,and yes laptops do suck if bought.

I wish you could get proper Laptop Clones.

I kinda like the laptops that come with Linux, as you can load windows yourself without all the rubbish.

Yeah, installed 3 x different laptops at work this week. They include so much junk that they automatically about 25% slower than they should be

The Sahara have a Linux one (their cheapest model), I buy those with Win XP seperate and maybe up the RAM on them on them too. Its the only Sahara branded product I would buy...

Agreed on that.

HP brand their desktops with some pansy-fancy HP wallpaper... which slows a VNC or Remote Desktop session down to a crawl...

And you battle your @$$ off to get rid of those hi-res wallpapers...

The problem is you can install WindowsXP (or Vista) from the original CD, but if the manufacturer installed some exotic hardware whose driver resides on the manufacturer's CD then you have a ballzy battle ahead of you...

What happened to the good olde days of ye olde 386SX/DX/486SX/DX with 8/16Mb RAM and Ickdoze 3.11 with DOS 6.xx? No fancy branded logos, or extra junk to slow things down...

Wait a minute here..There are still people that Buy branded PC’s, at like Inflated prices at Retail Outlets? That’s news

I thought that was over. So much cheaper to get the components separately, and to build up your own customised system these days.

Not everyone has the time and inclination, if I didnt have the skill to build with my eyes closed in record time, I would also be buying prebuilt for myself at the moment to save time.

And you dont get much support with selfbuilt...

I don’t waste my time buying the things separately, I ask my computer guy to do that for me. He is also a "certified" Intel system builder (call them what you like) so he delivers the complete PC to me. I would do it myself, but I don’t really like the idea of installing a chip you see (the thermal paste and whatnot - too scared I do something wrong) but the other things are dead easy. And with that I get great support! :D

Sometimes with the stock CPU's cooler the thermal paste is already on the Block ;)

New Manufactured PC's ala Dell/Sahara & HP, the ones that they refuse to tell you what compnents go in to make it up so when remove the side of the case to find out the manufactures warenty is viod... :comfused:

This is why I have been buying components for 10 years now ,and putting together my own PC's only ever had a board fry but that was Gigabytes fault and I got a new one in less than 2 days.

There is absolutly nothing wrong with self built, if something does not work I take it back and get a new one, If you are not too sure about the mobo just have that layed in and the rest is like lego, snap n' clip on.

80% of people will not complete the following hurdles

1) set bios to boot from cd
2) maybe load f6 drivers from floppy
3) install drivers...some have exe files, some are just inf's. some are zips.
4) get windows patched fully, sp2+ all the post sp2 updates

by that stage 80% have either messed it up or given up. be happy you are in the 20%. and be happy that the 80% appreciate the ability to either just use a system restore disc or a hard drive partition based recovery.

I have a feeling its much higher than 20% these days.

I always used to buy mine pre built and I always had problems. This time I ordered all the parts from Take2 and Prophecy got a friend to help put it all together. Almost no problems.

Best option IMO

Why Take2 and Prophecy? Afaik they are not the cheapest shop out there (Sybaritic comes to mind here).
