Yeah, the new laptops are full of rubbish. The last one I had to set up took 1 hour of registry editing to get rid of all the rubbish.

Components are the way to go (For the last 10 years already).

Why Take2 and Prophecy? Afaik they are not the cheapest shop out there (Sybaritic comes to mind here).

Good service generally. I had used Take2 before so I trusted them and Prophecy had a special that was cheapest at the time.

I thought so too until I did a stint helping out with desktop support at work. Most people (over 80%) are completely clueless when it comes to computers.

That is an understatement of note some never even heard of a C:\ or don't know where it comes from


EDIT: cant believe I just had to show someone how to create a new folder and how to copy paste other files into it

XP for dummies ftw!!! oh and need I mention this user has had a laptop from us for maybe 4 months now.

unfortunately, that rubbish that was pre-installed on the system helped to reduce the price of the machine.

so if you want one without rubbish, then it will cost more. And as typical consumers will shop by price then newm achines will continue to be pre-installed with rubbish.

reason: the rubbish-makers give the pc makers kickbacks when people register their software/convert the trial version/take out extra subscriptions etc. This could amount to $100 a machine, as per a Dell statement recently.

I dont really mind if a laptop comes with rubbish pre-installed on it. As soon as it's out of the box and turned on, I do a fresh install of which ever OS I decide it should run. It just feels wrong using an OS someone else has installed, makes me feel dirty in some wierd way.

most times, building yoru own pc youself works out cheaper, if you value your time at Rzero/hr
for laptops, this is mostly not even an option (some whitebooks exist...but you cant jsut waltz into a shop and buy a mobile cpu yet)

otherwise, people who build them in bulk, full time, in a factory, getting bulk volume discount on parts, will be able to do it cheaper.
