New Phone Advice

I kind of agree on the camera thing. In my case the only time I use my cellphone camera is for quick snaps of things I need to remember. But I'm kind of spoiled in that regard, the missus is a photographer so there are a couple of nice DSLRs lying around the house available for use.

OTOH, my dad has a new Nokia 8, which is about half the price of the Apple / Samsung flagships, but has a pretty decent camera. I was impressed by how fast it was (though I usually have budget phones so I'm easy to impress).

Just thought of a family friend living in the UK, who can probably buy the Pixel 2 from Carphone Warehouse & then get it couriered to me here. Is this advisable? Any tips?

Or maybe even the Postbox Courier route. Anyone shipped a phone through them?

Those shipping companies are a huge target for SARS. I use Aramex Global Shopper. Get your contact to open the phone box, then make an invoice for "repaired device" and give it a low price. They then post it to the address in UK that AGS gives you. Before they ship it from the UK AGS will ask you to email / upload a copy of the invoice. Cost for courier will be R199. Expect to have to pay VAT, at least.

I ended up contacting the seller, and they said that was a general seller comment and not for theirs cause they have brand new ones. So I ended pulling the trigger and buying, the phone arrived today and it is definitely brand new & unused. Quite happy on my purchase, and saved a bunch getting it through Amazon
