New player warms up

"We will be flat-rated but there will be limits [on call lengths]," Smith says.
I'm sorry I failed double-speak (also known as Telkom-talk).
To me the term "unmetered calls" assumes a flat charge for indefinite length.

Smith's statement is right up there with other disingenious statements he has made - remember the "uncapped connection" they advertised MyWireless with initially?

It was important for Sentech that it was not a "guinea pig"
Nope, it wants to be a great big pig! :D

R400 million added to the other government handout earmarked for them - wasn't it R700 million for TV infrastructure?

I wonder where the government gets its money from?

My sentiments exactly. How can it be called flat-rate if there's a time limit on call lengths?????

In the U.S. you could regard their free local phone calls as flat rate since you pay a monthly fee, BUT there's no time limits on call duration whatsoever. Come to think of it, don't know anybody who is providing a "limited" flat-rate.

interconnection fees that operators charge one another to terminate calls on each other's networks...

This is probably the most important factor in the equation, apart from VOIP not being allowed to terminate on Telkom's network, which should change with Sentech's new licensing.

its prob like an hour and then u can hangup and dial again... i see no problem with that... its more to stop dial up users hogging the line for ever... They do this in the uk...

But isn't this kind of thing indicative of the lack of infrastructure? Similar to Telkom's ploy that they HAVE to limit everyone to 3GB (we'll initially until NOV 1 2005 happened).

Also, if it's offering voice on it's data platforms (satellite and broadband) wouldn't this most likely be VOIP, in which case hogging the "line" won't be an issue, but more likely issues like contention ratios and bandwidth?

Another good thing and telkom only expected a 15% of their market share to go towards the sno I hope another 15% will go towards sentech for their voice and telkom getting A LOT less profit than previous years

Sentech plans to offer voice services on its MyWireless third-generation (3G) cellular data network

Does this mean Sentech was the first 3G Network in South Africa and also Africa?
