New PlayStation 4.5 specifications revealed: report

Well it ain't gonna do 4K gaming unless it's solitaire or something like that.

Meh, point of owning a console is so you can keep it for a couple of years without needing to upgrade. We get "base mode" now but how long before consoles become outdated within two years.

I agree, complete BS, defeats the whole purpose of buying a console.

This is a slap in the face, it was the first time that I was an early adopter of a new console and this happens. All I can say is that I won't be buying another PS again - Xbox/PC will be the next brand of choice after I get bored of the PS4.

The dirty console peasants have been duped

But, viewer, there lies a world outside this grimy basement: the world of PC gaming! And all you have to do to experience it is come up the stairs and into the light, feel the rays of the sun and the cool breeze upon your skin, then go down some more stairs into the other grimy basement next door! - Yahtzee

Its going to be able to upscale to 4k - very different. The same effect as having a blueray that can upscale for you.

it will be no more powerful than the current PS4

LOL

Pesants are so easily confused LOL

I have never seen a console that has not been outdated on release. Its the nature of the beast.

Buuut unless Sony actively advertised it as such then you are just making assumptions...

So basically, not real 4k then. Come to think of it, I was thinking about getting a PS4 in December. Just as well I didn't.

I am working on an assumption that this is the possible beginning of the end. I really hope it isn't though. If I was to buy a PS5 when it comes out and they release a PS5.5 I hope they will stick the "Base Mode" and "Neo Mode" and not drop it all together.

The other concern is that developers will neglect "base mode" rendering these consoles useless.

And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this will happen overnight (if it happens at all), but the reason many of us are buying consoles instead of PCs is because we do not want to fiddle with hardware and update it every two years. Buy and forget for 4+ years knowing every game will just work.

Those with early adopter's remorse should've known by now that Sony always does hardware revisions. Been like that since PS2.

It's almost three years now and it's not like the old one will stop working.

By this time I actually expected the PS5 to be around the corner.

People have no issue changing their phone every two years (and they get replaced every year) and cost far more, so I don't see the problem.

Besides until it's "real" it's a non concern anyway.
