Hi. I'm looking for a new 700W Modular Cooler Master Powersupply. I'm currently running an 8800GTS, about 10 Fans , 4 Hardrives and a Core 2 Duo on a 400W. Most of these power supplies go for R1000 - R1400 and I would like some advice on them. Theres a wide range but I dont know what to look at realy.

What are you willing to spend, best place to start. Havent looked much at the CM range, but I can recommend both Corsair and Thermaltake modular PSUs for now.

+1 for Corsair, I've read a couple of great reviews on that make. Not familiar with Thermaltake. Antec is another good option, but I found that make a bit pricey

+ 1 Antec, Corsair and Thermaltake also make great units. Why a 700 watt though, could get away with a decent 500 watt imo.

Exactly. Heck, why upgrade if your current PSU is working? 10 fans don't use much, neither does a Core 2 Duo, or a hard drive. 8800GTS uses some watts yeah, like 100-150. But don't go spending R1000 or something on a PSU, unless you wanna SLI or really go nuts.

400watts is most likely fine for that.

Corsair CX400... Great PSU at about R550! :D

Grab a Corsair VX550W, costs around R900. 5yr warranty and rock-stable.

Or get a cooler master GX series PSU. I have a 550W in the pc I'm building my gf and it rocks (got it very cheap though). They also come with 5 year warranty (not modular but modular is unnecessary) and are a bit cheaper then corsair

I had a look at those, then noticed that the Corsairs have 6 SATA connectors, whilst the CM GX units have 2. I have 3 SATA HDD's and a SATA DVDRW, so the CM would require molex-to-SATA adaptors. No thanks :D

The only thing that I find stupid about the GX series is that they just have 2x 6+2-pin PCI-E connectors, even though the PSU is more than powerful enough to run 2x GTX460's in SLI which would require 4x 6-pin PCI-E connectors.
You could just use Molex->PCI-E adapters if push comes to shove.

Agreed, luckily they're not too expensive. I've got like 5 lying around here lol. Even have like 30 sata molex converters :D Never really need them anymore though :/ Who wanna buy some spares :D
