Hey guys, my old RAM died and Im looking to buy a replacement. I have a credit for my old RAM at sybaritic so it has to come from there. There are currently 2 products in stock in my price range:

OCZ DDR3-1600 4GB (2x2GB) Gold Low Voltage Memory Module Kit - R1,349.00
Corsair DDR3-1333 4GB (2x2GB) XMS3 Memory Module Kit - R1,351.00

Seeing as they are priced pretty much identically, it would seem obvious to go with the DDR-1600 instead of the DDR-1333, but before I go ahead and order it I just wanted to clear up something here.

It says "**OCZ’s dual channel low voltage memory was specifically developed for the Intel® CoreTM i7, i5, and i3 processors to provide unparalleled compatibility and performance when installed in one of these cutting-edge platforms."

The thing is, I'm running a Phenom II X4 955 BE. This shouldn't be a problem right? I just want to make sure.

Thanks

The "specially developed" bit is just marketing BS, that memory will work fine in any DDR3 system. The OCZ kit runs faster than the Corsairs and is cheaper, it's the one to get.

Just bear in mind however, that due to a hardware limitation of your CPU, you can only use 2x DDR3-1600 modules with it, or 4x DDR3-1333 modules (see second paragraph of this review). In other words, if you choose the DDR3-1600 modules and you ever want to add more RAM to your machine, you will have to set your current modules to run at DDR-1333 speeds in the BIOS.

Thanks The_Assimilator, thats pretty much exactly the kinda info I was looking for :)

I'm not really planning to get any more RAM, and even if I did, I would be looking for quantity over speed anyway, so the underclock shouldnt be a problem. Thats a pretty swak limitation on their high-end CPU though :S

DDR-1600 won't give you more performance than DDR1333 in an AMD board. Always look for the ram with the lowest latencies(Cas) Kingston makes good kits as well.

meh, the 1600 isnt going to be in stock for a loooong time it seems, and that 1333 is the only in-stock RAM that I can afford. Its pretty much identical to my old RAM though, so I went ahead and ordered some today. Its been like 2 months, its about damn time :wtf:
