Hi all

I'm going to purchace a new rig at digitaladdiction.co.za soon, but would like your advice on the my spec so far. Am I buying stupid? Am I missing something? Here goes:

1 x Antec 900
1 x Microsoft Windows Vista "Business" Edition 64Bit
1 x Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme & 1 x Vizo 120mm Super Muffle Fan
2 x XFX 8800GT Extreme edition 512MB
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 Series - 500GB SATA
2 x Corsair TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF ... yes, 8GB :p
1 x Samsung 2232GW 22" LCD
1 x Samsung SH-S203B/D , 20x , Sata dvdrom
1 x Intel Core2 Quadro Q9450 - quad core 2.66ghz Tray CPU

Two things I'm unsure about: mobo + psu

What ASUS mobo would you suggest for my setup? I wanted to take the Striker II Formula, but it seems to be end of line.

Also, is 2 x 8800GT XT editions neccesary or would 1 do me fine for now?
If I should go sli, what PSU would you suggest (Keeping SLI in mind)?

Further, how will the noise levels be with my rig?? I want something fairly quiet...

Thanks for the help guys! :D

Since you going all out :D
ASUS Maximus Extreme - Republic of Gamers or ASUS P5E X38

YAR the maximus boards are awesome. Extreme for ddr3 or formula for ddr2 ...

I need a nForce chipset for sli. Maximus are intel chipsets. Any other nforce ASUS mobos? Also, would you all be so kind and help with the other questions as well?

Thanx!

Asus P5N32-E SLi nForce 680i SLi
ASUS P5N-Delux nVidia nForce 750i

Not too sure on the new 7x0i series

Seeing that you're going all out, I'd wait another month and get the GTX280...

Also, maybe look past ASUS, I've had some bad experiences over the past couple of months with them.

I know digitaladdiction is etai's shop, and it's great you're supporting him, but I'd buy a DFI mobo from landmarkpc, those mobo's rock and it'll be awesome OC'ing the 9450 with it.

If you REALLY want an nForce board, take a look at the EVGA 780i / 790i boards at landmarkpc too...

Take a look at this mobo :)

Anyways, that's what I'd take, for info on the best mobo's in the following chipset categories :

790i

780i

X48

X38

P35

750i

The above includes basically all the best high-end mobo's available in SA, except for the Gigabyte series..

I'd go, in the following order : X48, P35, 780i....

U sure 500gb is enough? Looks a bit thin compared to the rest of the rig. Couple of my friends are heading into 3TB territory.

could i make a suggestion

can u hold out for now?

new nvidia cards should be launched end of this month

these cards are going make the 8800gt look like an 8600gt

thank you for the replies so far guys... I will go and look into some of your suggestions and let you know.

True! but a lil' pricey compared to ATI's HD48xx

when your spending 22-25k does it matter glor :)

its all good and well they a little more than the ati's but performance is what he is looking for, not cheap slower cards :)

i dont believe the 48 series will live up to the hype

Ooops forgot there was no buget involved :D
Will have to see whom the victor is 48xx or GTX 2xx - Probably the GTX in pure performance ;)

I'm busy trying to find the suppliers for DFI and Evga :) ... should have them in a few days, now that exams are over ... I've got about a month to get digital addiction sorted ... and I'm going to start accepting credit cards, but I have to raise my prices for this, so to not penalise the cash guys, I am going to have a cash discount option on the site :)

Skip EVGA (in the mobo section at least, I know lots of guys would LOVE having GFX cards with a 10year warranty though :) )

But yeah, if you can get DFI boards, I'd probably buy my next board from you :)

I think 8GB RAM is overkill, unless you're planning on hosting databases from your PC ;)

Rather go for 4GB. You can always get another 4GB if 4GB isn't enough ;)
