Hi all,

I would just like a few opinions on what is to be my new rig.

Mobo - P5Q
CPU - E8400
RAM - Transcend® aXeRam™ DDR2-1066 Gaming RAM 4 x 1GB
GPU - ATI HD 4850 512mb

In time I will be installing a water cooling system and then do some overclocking

One of my questions is...should I install Vista with this system for gaming or should I stick to XP??

Yip that setup looks good to me! Nothing wrong....If you are going to go Vista go 64, otherwise stick with XP. 64 is without doubt the best, most solid OS I have ever used.

I've had no problems with Vista and would recommend it any time. Just remember to load SP1 and SP2(beta) for best experience. :D

You could probably get 2X2GB sticks for much cheaper. DDR800 will give basically the same performance and you could probably get CL4 latencies plus you could upgrade in the future.

Otherwise it's fine and I'd go Vista 64, or stick to XP until Windows 7 if you're actually going to pay money for Vista.

I'd rather go for a quad core at this stage, doesn't have to be clocked very high.

Can easily run a Q8300 at 3.0ghz with stock cooling, and the asus board makes it very easy. Makes Vista 64 run better and makes your system more future proof, games are going to start running on 4 cores sooner rather than later.

Another thing, you might as well get standard DDR2-800 RAM, because the minor performance difference doesn't justify the price of DDR2-1066. Could easily get 8GB DD2-800 for cheaper than 4GB DDR2-1066 would cost, unless your planning to overclock the bajeezus out of the CPU, which is not the best idea in any case.

Lastly, GET VISTA !!!! XP is D E A D :p

Just my 2c ;)

two things you might want to take into account, and maybe the other guys can comment. Ati and driver support vista 64 and drivers. Are these still issues? Like others have said ddr800 instead of 1066.

Can't really fault it. Hey if you want to go 1066 then do it..... I doubt you will ever have a reason to push the ram to its rated speed though. But rather more than less IMO.

Wow its about time everyone said Get Vista, XP is ancient history :P

Get Vista :D

Sharkbait SP2??? Where can I get it :$

Stick with xp till windows 7 is out then get the 64bit version.

Also rather quad.
