I recently upgraded and said no to the offered insurance as I have household insurance with movable possession but because I did not specify the phone the insurance company will not cover it.

Normally cell phones are excluded specifically. Should have been specified under All Risks.

If it's not specified under "All Risks" it will still be insured if it was stolen while in the house during a burglary for example.

Pro answer.

Just to elaborate, items removed from the insured property (house), have to be specified. Some policies will cover removable items up to about R3,000 without having to be specified.

Most people don't even bother reading their policy wording.

So did you activate the phone with a Gmail account ?

If so you should be able to track it .

Phone it, tell the schmuck who answers that you have the R2000 you owe him and want to bring it today to pay back.
