New SA search engine

I think it looks great ... problem is I am almost completly reliant on google ... I get my email, IM, web stats and income, news and more from them ... are they any plans to expand outside of just South African results? ATM it seems more convenient to just type in "Google web hosting" into my firefox browser bar and get a whole pile of results ... now, I could do the same with Jonga for local searches but it always seems easier staying in one place ... anyway I know that is alot of server space etc but mabye just a though ....

nice though ;)

Edit: just saw the international web option :) - will continue playing

Edit #2: Bit of feedback, I love the tv listings - but I think it needs some tweaking ... I search for "Movies tonight" and hardly lists anything :( - also prehaps being able to specify SABC and Etv channels only (in a cookie) ... I don't have dstv - thanks ;)

The Reason I Like Jonga

#1 Reason for liking this new South African search engine

I mailed the guys at jonga requesting a firefox search addon for jonga, not a toolbar. Now you can search Jonga straight form firefox,

Hi Rafiq

Just to let you know the Firefox Toolbar has been replaced on jonga with a Firefox Search Addon available at:

http://www.jonga.co.za/jongatoolbar.asp

Regards,

Alistair

#2 Reason for liking the new search engine in south africa:

No pop-up ads.

How can you expect to base you revenue on one of the most hated forms of advertising on the internet, pop-up ads? Haven’t seen 1 pop-up on Jonga. If you’re using Firefox you haven’t seen any on another search engine, called ananzi, in a while either. Every good browser blocks them, people have been trained to ignore them as we do banner ads. We don’t mean to, it just happens.

@jonga

Great to see chaps in SA going against the grain ;-) I take my hat off to you. Wanna add SMS functions ? (I can help there ;-)

jonga looks promising indeed - keep up the good work.

If you don't want *another* toolbar in firefox, you can use this handy bookmark feature as explained here:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Using_keyword_searches

... simply right-click in a search field on a web page and choose “Add a Keyword for this Search.” This will pop up a dialog for you to add a bookmark name and keyword.
