Could you elaborate?

The new 42"ers are the same resolution as the older 42"ers - 1024x768 with rectangular pixels for 16:9/HD Ready.

I see the 50"ers are full HD. Nice!

I must say these new models are MUCH more up my street than the C series.. simply due to the resolution.... I know i'm a bit of a perfectionist in this regards though, so the difference won't be massive for most ppl.. but for me its a big deal.
 
I just bought the PS-43-D490 from Tafelberg in Northgate for R6999, last one in stock at that price!
Only moving into new house at the end of May, so I wont be able to watch it until then :(
 
anyone care to shed light on whether or not the d series leds will be the same price as the c series?was thinking about getting the series 7 but if the newer model is coming out at near the same price i think i should wait

Just to give you guys a quick report back on the PS43D490...so far we are loving this TV!

We've watched some blurays and some dvds on it and they all look stunning! Colours look amazing and the black levels and contrast are excellent. We don't have DSTV yet (or any TV reception for that matter) so I can't comment on SD content, but HD looks great! I still need to throw some Planet Earth on to check for any judder issues though. And I haven't noticed any IR or screen burn-in so far (though we haven't used it too often)

It also looks great in our living room with the thinner bezel and I believe the TV is also physically thinner than the C series. This was something I was concerned about before buying (one of the reasons I was looking at rather getting a LED), but now that the thing is mounted on my wall, I don't know why I ever worried about it in the first place!

The only negative so far is that the TV doesn't support audio return channel, so I'll have to run another cable to get the tv channels' sound to the amp. this won't be an issue once we get DSTV though (will be routed through the amp).
One other minor thing is that when watching series off a memory stick plugged into the TV's USB port, the vertical stretch function doesn't work, so had to watch with black bars at the top and bottom. Not a major issue though. The stretch works on the other inputs though, so if you had a media player as a separate input, you would presumably be able to stretch the image.

To summarise - before we got the TV my wife said "why do we need an amp and speakers and everything? We can just use the TV's speakers". After watching one bluray on the TV she said "We need to get those speakers that go all around the room!!!"
 
Good to hear vaultedskies. Have you been able to watch the Blu-rays on a full HD / 1920x1080 screen?

What's your viewing distance?

I have a few 1080p movies and they are fantastic on my 42" 1024x768 19:9 720p wide screen HD TV.
 
PS51D550 + BD-D5500 (3d player)
Only got it 2 days ago, still trying to get all my tvs to work via xtraview. Will play with it this weekend. Avatar BR much beter than my old plasma 42". still to get some 3D material to watch. Very nice looking tv, small black frame etc.
 
Just paid for mine 51D550. R.10700 for a TV and R.1000 for additional 3year warranty. The shop should deliver tomorrow and will post here what the first impression is. Little bit off topic guys, any suggestions for a proper and well priced ver.1.4 HDMI cables. Looked at Makro they are selling Philips 1.3 for something like R.459 which is crazy.
