I've got 13 grand to spend on a motherboard, cpu, ram, psu and graphics card. I'm looking at Sandy Bridge and maby a GTX 570. Any ideas/advice?

'K' series not much more if you want to overclock. Just remember to buy a P67 motherboard. The 'H67' is for use of the intel onboard graphics. The i5 2500k doesn't have hyperthreading but is OK for games. Go i7 2600k if you can afford it. It spanks nearly all the existing i7's!

Some of the overclocked 460's are breathing new life into the older gen Gpu's. 570 looks great.

There aren't that many mobos around yet. Asus P8P67 series is worth a look if you like lots of features.

RAM is usually dual channel so buy a pair of sticks.

PSU choice can be tricky. Maybe look at a low noise modular one with a good review.

I was thinking of maby waiting for the Asus Maximus IV Extreme and yes I will be going for the 2600K

550W PSU should suffice for the GTX 570 + Sandy Bridge. If you do get a PSU, try get one that has a single +12V rail and which received good reviews.
Seeing that you'll be getting Sandy Bridge stuff, you won't require such a massive PSU if it's a single rail one. From the reviews that I've seen about the Sandy Bridge CPU's: they draw less (and the 2600K uses the same) power at like 4.9GHz than and old i7 950 CPU at stock speed! eg. http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpus/2011/01/03/intel-sandy-bridge-review/11

Prophecy Shop, WootWare & Landmark PC already has Sandy Bridge stuff listed and even a couple of it in stock.
WootWare is listing the 2600K for R 2,844.00 (which is cheaper than the other 2 IIRC), but they don't have the 2500K listed yet.

W.r.t the RAM, buy a pair of the fastest possible memory sticks that you can buy without breaking the bank :) So don't go out and spend R2000 on 2x 2GB DDR3 2400MHz modules if you can get like 2x 2GB DDR3 1866 for R1000, because the performance difference ain't that big.

If you're mainly going to use the PC for gaming, then go for the i5 2500K, otherwise go for the i7 2600K.

I'd say 850w PSU is going to be ideal - maybe Antec Truepower 850, GX850 (CM) or TX850 (Corsair).

850W is when you want to go for the old Core i7 series and 2x GTX 580...
Otherwise it is overkill.

It's overkill in 99% of situations. But I'm willing to bet that's what he wants. You don't get a sandy bridge gaming pc and then a 550w psu to match.

There are some benefits to having a more powerful PSU than you need, since efficiency will usually top out somewhere between 40% and 60% usage, and heat disappation should be good too.

That said, I'd rather pay the few hundred bucks extra for the CM SPP Gold 800 already mentioned or an HX/AX850.

Pick out a graphics card:

AMD 6000 series

Nvidia 500 series

Personally I would get a 6970, but that's just me.

Go for a lower power PSU as pada recommends, vga power usage is on the down not up so i cannot see why someone needs a 850w 2k psu anymore.

Wow the 570 is expensive and the 580 is just crazy .

Personally, wait just a couple of weeks, so that most suppliers have stock and a few more M/B are released and then make up your mind.

http://www.guru3d.com/ just released reviews of MSI P67-GD65 and the ASUS Sabertooth P67 TUF, so go read that compared to the standard Asus P8P67 that is now available in SA

you can never go wrong with an corsair 750watt psu + they have a 7 year warranty.

Corsair offer a 5-year warranty afaik - although if someone can clarify this for me it would be appreciated. The information is confusing.

Certain models do have 7/8 year warranties but majority you are correct at them being 5 year if I recall.

Hmm, just checked. Seems a 3 year warranty in the Gaming and 5 years in the Enthusiast series. AX have 7 year.

7 years?

Yea but surely that means you must send it overseas and blah blah, i highly doubt the cosair sellers will keep that warranty?

Evga have 10 years and XFX in USA have double life time.
Keeping the POP is probably the biggest problem here in SA :P
But yeah, would be interesting to find out if local resellers honour Corsairs warranty.
