New site design & logo

Now what would be wrong with smileys bouncing around all over the screen making things harder to read I wonder. I also vote for more.

Ok, for a non technie like me does this program allow me to turn the current myadsl rss feed into some code that i can give my webmaster to put onto my site. Please say yes.
 
RSS feed error??

OK I watched the video on the feeddigest page and thought, how hard can it be I'll give it a bash. I then clicked on the RSS icon on the main myadsl page and got this error.

This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.

This was followed by some nice looking code that meant nothing to me. Is this an error or was I supoosed to get that. Using Firefox on XP.

That code is the rss information ... copy the address in the address bar and that is the feed location which you can input into any rss compatable service :)

This is hellva confusing especially for new ppl,


guys either its the new one or the old one you cant have both... defeats the point of the logo.
 
Redundant Data

It seems to me that the main stylesheet is included in every forum page. If it was moved into an external style sheet it would save 5,277 bytes with every page load. Besides the savings it would bring to MyADSL it would also be a great relief to the forumites. An external stylesheet will also only be 5,266 bytes in size because of the removal of the comments. The same can be done with the scripts. :cool:

Any chance on that link to http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/usercp.php appearing on the main page?

Good point about the stylesheets ... also can we please not make the link to the forums open in a new window from the new main site - sometimes I go to that page to look at all the news and then want to go to the forums ... because I want it in the same window I just end up changeing the address in the address bar.

Might be a problem there then. But the jscript could be easier to move as you would only require a different script for every browser and then link to the right script based on which browser is being used.

After thinking about it for a while I was thinking that the forumites might not be very happy with that part as a lot of people now has 30GB+ local and only 2-3GB international bandwidth. A lot of them would be capped internationally and the number of visits would drop. So while it would bring a saving it would also mean less advertising revenue.

I am using FF, so it does open in a new tab ... and I could set it to open in the same tab ... but I don't want to have to do that - if I click on a link at Digg.com I want it to open in a new tab

Opera will solve that with a right click.
 
Yep, just a right click-->Open. I'm in love with my Opera.
Seem to think FF is worse and worse compared to it each day. But I've said enough about Opera already, and anyway it cant render my ADSL front page, so I'l keep quiet. (yes only the beat has the problem, but its better in most other ways)

I still the think thew change looks much better in general on the main site, besides the logo maby...
 
Middle-clicking in FF opens a link in a new tab. (It's probably way off the point...) :D

Back to the rss feed...

Could it be expanded to include a bit more info? currently it doesn't even contain the full heading. The full snippet as found on the myadsl homepage would also be appreciated.
 
Would be nice if VB had a feature whereby if someone is posting to an ancient thread it pops up with a little window telling one how old the thing is :rolleyes:
