New Sony HDR-SR11E Camcorder

Hey

I want to buy the new released Sony HDR-SR11E Camcorder, but I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit.

Does anyone know if the camcorder supports Windows Vista 64 bit? I couldn't find any information on the web, probably because this is a new released camcorder.

Doesn't look like it supports 64 bit.

I cannot understand that Sony wouldn't give support for 64 bit software. I can't think that video editing people that use the camera does not have 4GB RAM - the main reason why people use 64 bit.

I mean, 64 bit has been around for many years starting from the days of Windows XP.
 
I'm currently editing HD footage with 2 gb's of ram, dual core Athlon 4000+ and its not slow one bit, compression times when encoding could be faster of course but the editing process is smooth. Maybe install windows xp on another partition and use that.
 
Thanks for the reply. I could do that, but since I'm investing in a new camcorder, I just feel that Sony should cater for new technology since they're selling new technological camcorders.
 
I currently have the canon hv20, the canon hv30 is out next week I think. I you gonna go with HD mini dv thats the camera to get
 
Netspike when you mean Vista does not support it in what way ? . I'm running Vista 64 Ultimate and I have a Sony HDR-HC7 (which I'm selling coincidentally, PM me if you are interested) and it runs just fine on my computer. I've made movies with the standard Movie Maker, Sony Vegas and Premiere PRO CS3.

I emailed Sony and everywhere on their website it states that 64 bit not supported. Also, on other forums people are complaining their their Sony cams don't work on 64 bit.

Did your cam appear in My Computer when connected and do you maybe have Vista SP1 installed, which could perhaps include the drivers now?

Also, how can Movie Maker and Premiere Pro recognise the AVCHD format in which Sony hard drive camcorders record? Unless you're exporting it from Sony Vegas.

Sorry forgot to mention that the HDR HC7 is a MiniDV camcorder. When I bought my camcorder last year I did a lot of homework forking out over R13000 for a camcorder you want to make sure to getting the right thing. Over and above the three points below I went for MiniDV because the AVCHD format was just taking off and nobody supported it. If I had to buy another HD camera today I would still go MiniDV

1. Convenience you can buy tapes anywhere and you don't need to buy HD tapes that's BS I have a few MiniDV HD tapes and you can't tell the difference !
2. Storage, with HD you need a lot of hard drive space if you using the AVCHD format. Mini DV I can store on tape.
3. Quality AVCHD still does not come close to Mini DV

AVCHD is now supported by the main players like Adobe, Sony and Pinnacle but I can't comment on the Vista 64 bit support. If I was you I would stick to MiniDV it is far more flexible and cheaper in the long run.

Hi Guys

I've decided to go with the Sony HDR-SR11E camcorder and ordered it from the shop in March 2008 when it was launched (just look at the dates when the posts on this forum topic was made!).

I am STILL WAITING for Sony to ship the cam to South Africa. It's been on backorder for 4 months. During these 4 months Sony has apparently shipped only 3 of these camcorders to South Africa and only 1 of them came to Cape Town - how pathetic is that?

My mom was in the shop when they phoned the suppliers who backordered the cam from Sony, and they are still waiting. It's almost time for the next release to be launched and I wonder if they will ever make their way to South Africa?

The events that I originally wanted to use the cam for has come and gone, and I had no proper HD digital camcorder to film them with.

Sigh Sony!
 
Goodness, found this post of mine.

I have finally purchased the Sony HDR-SR12E High Definition 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound camcorder on 24 December 2008.

What a long wait!!!
