DOW2? Or I've considered the expansion pack for World at War, which if you havent tried is pretty decent.

Or for the sim style, try the new Colonisation based on the Civ 4 engine.

DOW2 was decent... Gets boring after awhile since its basically the same thing over and over killing Space orcs or creatures.

Civ 4 playing style blows, im not one for that turn based non sense.

Strokes and folks mate, I find the turn-based style of CIV engrossing and extremely rewarding. RTS games tend to get repetitive and boring after a week or so. The depth in CIV is just staggering - give it another chance and you might just get hooked.

Then you didn't really play CIV at all. You have a lot of control over your armies in CIV. You need to order them to attack, defend, upgrade their stats, etc. They don't just idly sit by and life their own lives and do what they want. You can, however, automate some tedious unit actions, like ordering workers to automatically build upgrades like roads, farms, etc. or for explorers to automatically explore new areas of the world map.

There really is a lot of depth and strategic challenge in CIV. If you want an "easier" version of CIV to get into, try CIV: Revolution on the XBOX. It's a slightly "watered down" version of traditional CIV with a heavier focus on action and battles. If you're done there, try moving on to CIV IV for a real challenge. It will easily eat up all your available hours and will have a much longer lasting appeal than normal RTS games.

Have you tried Hearts Of Iron 2. Bit like Civ 4 but real time. You control a nation from 1936 to the 1950s IIRC. You control all aspects of the country from economy, technology, diplomacy... as well as building units and controlling them on the battlefield at the divisional level. You can even play as S.A lol

Youtube here i come. Thanx ill look into it.

I also recently tried Grand Ages - Rome. I love games like that where you have to manage the world basically in real time still.
