New Subaru WRX

Still in 2004 that car was 300K with all the options, off the showroom floor. (full PP2 kit, OEM STi spoiler R15K (colour coded and fitted), STi short shifter R4500, a few other bits and bobs)

Subaru has posted some good sales numbers for May/June 2014.

I hope the new WRX sells more than 4 units per month.

I am guessing the Outback and Foresters are going to be selling well. The 5 year maintenance plan is going to get a few sales.
 
The 5/150 Plan has created a great deal of interest and I currently have 3 cars waiting Finance clearance and have delivered my first one, all thanks to that, so it couldn't have come at a better time! :D

Forester and Outback at this stage, but I think this is just a tentative toe in the water at this stage to see how popular it will be, we've been begging for something like this for years now.

I always thought I'd be a heart over head buyer. I've always liked the less conventional brands - your Saabs, Volvos and yes, Imprezas. But when it's your own cash, man does the head rule. So much respect to those that put their money where their mouth is.
 
Just to give you an idea.

depreciation cost per month R 1736
Petrol cost avg per month R 2500
Insurance R 680 pm (currently, It was over R800 new)
Servicing & maintenance R ????
Repairs R ???? eye watering out of warranty.


Mod cost R ???? hehe


Still it is a four door, safe car. And it is WR Blue.
 
Talk about hearts and heads - the Forester/XV/Outback range is very much a "head" buy.

Those owners have researched every last aspect of the car before they come in, and tend to buy it from a superb engineering point of view, rather than any "extras" they might get.
 
I thought carefully before buying my WRX.

Good space(it can be a family car, it had isofix baby seat attachment in 2002, five proper seatbelts ), safe handling, great crash protection(ring reinforcement around passenger safety cell). Good price to performance ratio. Established dealer network. BTW at the time I choose my WRX model over the older GT one as it had +60kg more weight. Almost all of this was in accident protection and structural rigidity improvements.

They used to have station wagon in the fleet. These were awesome. N/A models go on forever(typical japanese engineering. I have driven one with over 750 000KM). The turbo models require a bit more driver care to ensure reliability. Now toyota has influenced the quality and fit control. It has gotten better.

Very underrated here in SA. But in the US, Subaru has a the same rep as Toyota here in SA (everything keeps going right).

It has alot going for it and it had way less problems than my BMWs. My M3 was a nightmare(wrt to garage visits).

SSA should put this in their advertising. This is one point they fail to push. The forrie will in an accident outperform most SUVs in its price range and some that are even higher priced. Safety is a huge issue here in SA. Instead we get the wotacar adverts.

Agree with you on the advertising!

I have a series of photos of a Forester that hit a bridge at about 120 km/h, and then fell 10 metres on to its boot in the river bed.

They were able to get out of the car and walk away - all doors could open and close,engine broke away and dropped under the passenger cell, airbags worked perfectly and they were able to come and see us the following day and order a new one!

One of the safest cars on the road.

Simplest is just hit print-screen on your keyboard when the pdf is open on the image, go to microsoft paint and Edit->Paste, then save it.

Pity the 5/150 is not available on the XV. That's a great looking SUV (IMHO).
 
And this safety has been engineered into the full range from 2001(new age models).

UHSS(ultra high strength steel) rods and Boron around the passenger cell. Most other cars have these bars only in the door (to enhance side impact protection).


For safety I would only drive my family in a Subaru. But my wife hates the shapes.

She wanted a pink STi once. But the waiting period was too long.

Steve Smith has been tweeting about the Carmag track test at Killarney this morning, of the new STi... They also have a McLaren on track this morning.

This new editor seems to like Subaru and Deon Joubert will be the driver. I respect his opinion... though I can't understand why he did a faster lap @ Killarney in the 135M than in the A45. Rest of the world got it the other way round.

Yes, that's correct - the new guy is at least giving us a chance, whereas HO flatly refused to write anything decent about us after he had a fight with one of the marketing people!
Deon's a great driver - he was the driver at the WRX launch, so he's done quite a few laps with the new setup - should be quick in the STi.
