New Subaru XV

BS and you know it - I'll give you a list of ugly Koreans if it will make you feel any better about yourself. Have you ever said anything bad about a Subaru? or are they perfect... Not that I'd expect a salesman to say otherwise (no offence).

Funny enough the only people mentioning the Koreans and derailing their own thread is the Subaru fanboys, must have chip on shoulder :p

I have said plenty about Subaru and what I don't like about them, but one thing that totally pisses me off is when people will buy a KIA or Hyundai, because it's 'pretty' and screw the rest.

I am gatvol of having to make excuses for a brilliant brand, because the local marketing doesn't exist at the moment, and nobody has bothered to find out whether there has been a model change since 2006, and then calls our cars ugly and old fashioned.

No Subaru is perfect, but it is an engineering masterpiece, and the sooner the halfwits who buy cars because they are pretty or have a 150 000 warranty which in real terms is meaningless, the sooner we will have people buying cars which are safe, and well put together, where you don't have to pay extra for an extra pair of airbags, or fork out a fortune for a Maintenance plan.

But then we are talking about the SA consumer, and I guess pigs will fly before anyone actually comes to their senses.

The car was designed with a particular market segment in mind, and it looks as if you are damned if you do and damned if you don't. Previously on this site, people were bitching that the Forester was too staid or old fashioned - try and go in the other direction and we are too modern....

If we'd slapped a KIA or Hyundai badge on the thing, everyone would be saying what a beautiful car it was...
Not sure if that's aimed at me Fazda, but I don't recall ever having praised a Korean car in favour of a Scooby. Just providing my opinion on why it looks a bit 'off' to me in orange - even said that it looks great in black.

No Mike, not aimed at you at all - just a general "pissed off" statement.

Is this not based on the previous model (hatchback) Impreza body?

Definitely not. The Impreza range has undergone a total change overseas. No longer available here, and this is based on the new one - a much bigger and more refined car.

How does it compare to the Forester and Outback?

How does it compare to the Forester and Outback?

Smaller than both, but more luxurious than the Forester. 220mm ground clearance v/s 225 for Forester and 213 for the Outback, so it is a very capable offroad vehicle as well. We've had ours on the beach already and it's magic.

I really like these new models :)

I'd drive around in one to advertise for you guys up here in Gauteng if you 'lent' it to me for like a few years :D

Oi! That's my job! :p :D ;)

As for the more luxurious bit, it has soft touch dash inside, standard with the most comprehensive MFD I have ever seen, sunroof, blue tooth, reversing camera with a leather and GPS option. The Forester only starts getting close to that spec on the top of the range Premium model, and is still more basic inside.

The standard model has cloth upholstery though, right? (I hate it when you have to take a leather interior coz that's all that's offered).

Yes, they all come with cloth as standard, which I prefer 1000% over leather. why people would go for leather is totally beyond me.

Any news on the Turbo Diesel version?

Yes, Subaru SA, in their wisdom, have decided not to bring it in..........

Of course, which model do 90% of the people who come on to the floor want...? You guessed it...the turbo diesel.

At times I wonder if they actually want to succeed in this country! :(

If I had that much money I would not buy a 4x4 personally, I'd buy something that flaunted my salary size a bit more.
