I'm very tempted to buy one, I cant fault it besides the small boot. I'm looking for peace of mind affordable motoring and intend keeping the car for at least 3 years.

Does anyone own one who can share some impressions?

I'm considering the auto, even though its only a 4 speed box it still responds quite well and around town it felt great.

I also like the fact that it's not so common. I also drove the new Polo 1.6, which didn't impress, didn't seem to handle as good as the swift and it's very pricey with added options. Perceived quality on the vw is nice but the value of the Swift is undeniable.

I quite like the looks of it. However it is pricy, for that money I would likely rather get the rio tec auto and save R5k

Swift is a hoot to drive, and highly regarded globally. The boot is a bit of a joke though. It doesn't really compete head-on with the Polo; it's half a notch down in size and material quality. However, if it appeals to you, it's not a bad choice of wheels at all.

Just do yourself a favour and take a test-drive on the highway first: the previous gen could've done with a bit more sound insulation, but I haven't driven the new ones yet.

Certainly fun to drive and quite punchy too..noise insulation was a problem on the previous generation so I hope that has been sorted. Quality of materials on the interior wasnt great either...

Suzuki Swift dons a racing suit

A car with an RS badge is usually cause for excitement amongst high-performance enthusiasts, but Suzuki South Africa has decided to use the moniker on a new model that has the wolf's clothing without the bite.

The Swift 1.2 RS is a limited-edition Suzuki hatchback dressed in a racy visual package comprising sportier front and rear spoilers and side skirts to visually 'lower' the vehicle. Custom dark machined rims on Goodyear Dura tyres and a tailgate spoiler further add to the athletic vibe, as do dark blue sporty decals and RS lettering, and painted side mirror covers. All RS models are available only in Artic White Pearl Metallic.

Inside, the 1.2 RS acquires custom seat covers.

But beneath the extravagant plumage is a stock-standard Swift 1.2 GL, moved along by the same little 1200cc 16-valve engine with humble outputs of 63kW and 113Nm.

The GL spec comes with creature comforts such as electric windows, a radio / CD player with Bluetooth connectivity, air conditioning and a multi-function steering wheel. Two airbags and ABS brakes make up the safety kit.

“When we conceptualised the 1.2 RS, we set the target of creating an exciting and visually appealing Special Edition for under R200 000. With a price tag of only R184 800 and a rapidly growing waiting list, we have surely hit our target,” says André Venter, divisional manager for sales and marketing at Suzuki Auto South Africa.

The price includes a 3-year/100 000km warranty and 3-year/30 000 km service plan.

If you want a new Swift wait till July this year. The new shape will be released this year. The new model has more space & bigger boat.

An RS car with 63kw under the bonnet lol

Really does not deserve to be called "RS"

I wonder how many people are on that rapidly growing waiting list?

That RS model will sell. I think it is stupid expensive but will sell.

This actually looks like value for money in 2017,very sad.

A Kia Picanto is now R200 000, so that 1. 2 RS is actually competitive. I am tired of SA car prices, it has to come down soon.

The Swift is a very nice car with great dynamics but I think that it will disappear from the South African market.
It simply has no place in the Suzuki range and can cause confusion in the mind of the prospective buyer.
Where does it slot in with the pending arrival of the Ignis and the recently launched Baleno?
The Ignis is going to sell from about R170,000 and the Baleno starts at R200,000.

The Ignis will replace the Swift 1.2 range and the Baleno will substitute the Swift 1.4.

Similarly the Vitara has all but demolished the demand for the SX4.

Wow! So they've put an RS badge on the 1.2 GL
When my bro was car shopping late Dec, the sales lady said he could add an extra R5k for that paint job, spoiler and alloy wheels ("the sport package")

Ignis is a different class though.

Cheeky indeed...

Suzuki adds cheeky Swift 1,2 RS edition to SA range

Suzuki Auto South Africa has added the new special edition Suzuki Swift 1,2 RS to its local range.

The new derivative is priced at R184 800, with the local arm of the Japanese automaker saying it will be sold “in limited numbers”.

Based on the five-speed manual version of the 1,2 GL model (currently priced at R167 900 – we’ll leave you to do the maths), the special edition thus features electric windows, a radio/CD player, Bluetooth, air-conditioning and a multifunction steering wheel.

But Suzuki’s designers have added front and rear spoilers and side-skirts, as well as dark alloys wrapped in Goodyear Dura rubber. A tailgate spoiler fitted flush to the upper lip of the rear hatch door is also part of the bold styling package.

And, as you’ve no doubt already noticed from the accompanying images, Suzuki has furthermore thrown all manner of decals at the special edition 1,2 RS, as well as painting the front spoiler, side-skirts, rear spoiler, faux-diffuser and side-mirror caps in a matching blue hue. Inside, you’ll find a new set of seat covers.

All RS models will be sold in Artic White Pearl Metallic.

The engine has remained untouched, despite the addition of the menacing RS badge, which means the 1,2-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder mill still makes 63 kW and 113 N.m…
