Telkom announced price changes to its ADSL products, which include increased value on some products and price increases on others

Why would they give you a 10Mbps line but limit your internet speed to 4Mbps?

To Be fair, I really like the Telkom softcap products, they give you better line speed, with capped data during the day, and a window to queue your downloads at night .. In practice, if you buy a 30gb softcap, you get most of what you need during the day, all your downloads at night, on a 10meg line for about 100 rand or so more than 4meg uncapped .. seems like a good deal if you are prepared to play nice ...

My only concern is how long the product will be around for .. before it is abused back off the product offering .. becuase quite frankly ... I will be abusing the crud out of it between 12 and 6 ...

Internet should be affordable not a luxury. Why are prices going up when they should be going down.

I wish we had a true second national operator; competition is healthy, but they own the monopoly and can do as they please.

Telkom Internet are forced to pay IPC like everyone else and are not allowed to run at a loss. This price increase was probably needed because their last price drop was quite large. They might have underestimated data use.

What this is making clear is Isp's have dropped prices as much as they can given the current cost of IPC. If we want a further round of industry wide price reductions there will have to be a substantial drop in the cost of IPC.

I wonder when we will see it?

Now from the 1st of August will I have 10gig during the day and uncapped during 00:00 and 06:00?

If this is true then I'm a real happy camper

For R99 the IC uncapped product gives me more than 5gb daytime usage and it runs full speed between 5pm-8am

I'm struggling to see how (if?) these changes will affect my costs.

We have a Telkom landline, plus Telkom ISP ADSL 10GB + 10GB = 20GB data allowance per month. I presume that if we exceeded 20GB per month we would be soft-capped. We have the highest line speed available from our local exchange, i.e. up to 4Mbps

Mmmmmm, so, R 584 for 50GB daytime and uncapped night-time at 10Mbps or R 585 for uncapped all the time at 4Mbps.

I think it's time for me to change. My downloads are already scheduled to run at night, and a speed increase during the day would be welcomed. Does anyone know if Telkom capped performs better than their uncapped, or is it still the same ****.

It's a historical thing due to the last round of price changes. If you're on that bundle, you're being ripped off, but it seems that Telkom is above the law, so what you gonna do?
