I can't speak to the budget, but these components shared by @Aghori are not bad, only looking at your 4 mentioned needs.

Unless you need it now, I would wait a bit. New announcements are coming up, and older generations might see a price drop. Though I would not count on it given the economics, 50:50.

I who still need an AM5 motherboard and memory have put it on the back burner. Computex is around the corner, and though AMD might not bring much new to the table in regard to X870/E and B850/E I am hoping to see price decreases on the X670E. According to people I have spoken to, there could be price increases :crying:

In the meanwhile I have settled on an ASUS X670E TUF and G.Skill DDR5 6000Mhz CL30. I am not ready to pull the trigger. Might do so next week. Wootware has an excellent deal on these.

PCs got way too expensive... so did everything.

The i5-14600KF is real good value at that price point.

The PC I am building is this, but AMD and G.Skill (non-RGB) Neo memory; otherwise it is all the same.

The cooler issue that Lee had, lol, I think the heat sink is lower on AM5 X670E boards.

I would have gone with the Ryzen 7600 and put the saved money toward a 4070 Super...the CPU's are close enough to be indistinguishable while the 4070 Super is 50% faster than the 4060 Ti 16Gb.

Not bad, had a look at this video by Hardware Unboxed which used the CPU in a value built.

The Intel gets out slightly ahead, but as you suggested, the saving can be put towards a better GPU.

Yes, Steve can give good advice, sometimes :p

I disagree with their motherboard testing methods so I take those with a grain of salt (I'm never going to buy a 16 core CPU for home use so why would I be bothered if a motherboard chokes a 7950x?) but usually he's on the money.

Yah well. For me, it is an easy principle: power hungry CPUs and GPUs should not prey on weak PSUs and mobos. It is important to know that when you buy, you buy top down. Your start with the motherboard. Know its capabilities, know its support. As with all new things. Early adopters are the guinea pigs, and it comes at a price. I don't mind Steve pointing out some weaknesses.

I like other Steve more, but sometimes he, eh, does not do the best research. Not going into that.

What I do is, I talk to the brand partners, I talk to the resellers (I am also one) and I talk to the users. I want to know what is being sent back, I want to know what stock moves, how returns are handled, etc. It is a good gauge, understanding what works and what does not work.

This is the setup that I would choose For R26,223. It will will last you a decade or more.

I'm assuming that you already have a 600-650W PSU, 4K Monitor, Case, Mouse/Keyboard and SSD.

Anyone see good deals on 1TB SSD's..? Either m.2 or 2.5" form factors are fine.. just need something that's going to last, as any pc upgrades are a near once in a lifetime thing for me just about.. still running a 6th gen intel CPU..

Edit:
Should add, PCI express 3 is where my board is at, so don't need anything faster than that..

Here you go:

Interesting to see how laptops are competitively priced now compared to desktops. I remember back when laptops had way worse performance for the same price. You can pick up an RTX 4070 laptop for around the same price once adding in SSD, PSU and screen costs to the desktop (desktop will be over R30k when adding those) and the performance is only around 10% worse for the laptop.

eg. A RTX 4070 WootBook with 1TB SSD and 32GB RAM will cost R30.5k. Very similar price to a desktop of equal performance when adding in all the extras (screen, keyboard too). Desktop might even come out more expensive which is insane.

Since I am doing my own build, and have a Deepcool PX1000G which is ATX 3.0. Would you use 12v HPWR to 3 x 8 to power a Radeon GPU? Since the Nvidia melting issue I am being cautious :giggle:

Tough one. I'm running 12v HPWR on my GPU and haven't had any issues at all. But I guess that doesn't necessarily mean the issue is solved.

I would go with whatever seems safest to you.

I would have no issue plugging it into an Nvidia GPU with the port. I know there are three-way splitters, but everyone I ask shrugs at the question. There is nothing in the manual either other than the "important" notice to use separate PCIe cables, there is nothing about using 12v HPWR. Either AMD advises against it, or the manual does not cover the ATX 3.0 standard. Maybe I should ask them the question directly...
