Hi All - I am on the other end of the 'PC Build' spectrum - all I need is a budget SFF device with Windows 11 Pro, 16GB RAM, a 512GB SSD (with additional HDD / SSD expansion capability) & a 12th Generation Intel CPU. I will be primarily utilising it for internet browsing, emails, MP3 music playback, occasional dashcam video editing & MS Office 2021 apps.

This Blackview MP60 SFF unit from Geewiz seems to tick all of the boxes for me - and it's currently available at a reasonable price of only R4,099 incl VAT.

Is this a good option for me, or should I consider any other options instead?

I got the SN580 for 2 PC upgrades recently , TLC NAND, it holds it's performance well even when it starts to fill up, overall an excellent drive.

R1165 + free delivery from Takealot is excellent, I doubt you will find anything better at this price.
Got mine from Wootware for R1199 and both systems I put them in are running smooth as butter, couldn't be happier.

Just a note, remember to update the firmware when you get it, there was a Windows 11 update which resulted in Blue screens on some WD drives.

Finally be warned that it does not come with a heatsink and I did notice that it does tend to run hot when doing very large writes with no airflow.

True. I like the TBW on that.

I personally use a Samsung 990 Pro. It's a lekker lil thing that (the one with the red heatsink).
 
Last night I saw that Gigabyte dropped their AGESA 1.2.0.2b update on the 19th. The Gigabyte Control Center does not automatically detect BIOS updates. For me at least. It is a manual process. Anyhow, did the update last night and all my issues went away, including idle temp spikes (that happened in both Windows and Linux). Not much improvement in generic gaming benchmarks, but the 1% lows are better.

All in all, something was messed up with the latest driver, which I now think was optimised to work with AGESA 1.2.0.2b, and now the system is more stable. I didn't have any instability issues, but there were behavioural issues. It is still early observations.

For anyone having a Ryzen 7000/9000 CPU, in particular X3D, give the AGESA 1.2.0.2b update a go.

Yeah I got one of these 8 months ago. Does the job. No complaints.
 
Got an email from Wootware about the B580 being available to order for R6999.

At that price meh 4060 is better

Especially with the revelation that if you pair the B580 with a complimentary budget orientated CPU+MB+RAM combo the performance is garbage.
 
Something tells me that the 9070 will not live up to the 5070, never mind the 5070 👔

At least AMD would need to beat Nvidia on price. Consumers might actually have access to good GPUs now at an accessible price. It is still high, but not that high. The 5090 being expensive as it is, is a workstation-class GPU. Even AMD is leaving RDNA moving 'back' to UDNA.

I like how people are dissing Jensen when he said the 5070 is comparable to the 4090 when he publicly voiced the "AI" disclaimer. Funny though, people need to go see which mods are amongst the most popular. It is what it is. Resources are sparse, people need to download generation (Frames, that is), why not leave it to AI (as much as I dislike it)?

I think Nvidia had a good product announcement, AMD not as much. They won with the 9800X3D. Ultimately, the 9070 will also rely on AI. It will have to beat the MSRP $549 price tag. Either $499 or $529, and the latter might push expectations. AMD also made much about their encoder/decoder engine, but Nvidia now have double the NVENC engine layout, and the 5090 has triple decoders that no normal person will need. The available RAM is the only question mark.

AMD though, their product support is worrisome. I don't think that most new tech will be coming to RDNA 3. They danced around that too when questioned by the media. FSR 4, though technically compatible with RDNA 3, might not have it all.

Anyway, it was a bit weird how AMD did not actually announce RDNA 4 to the public, but rather to the media.
