New The PC Build Thread

ANTEC Ax20, small but surprisingly nice to build in. This is the parts from my sons old machine.
1600af, Asrock B450M, 16GB RAM, 512gb ssd and 2060 super. The power supply is a Coolermaster 550w, should be enough for flight sim 2020 and possibly 2024 with some setting adjustments.
My son took over my 5700x3d and he's got an ARC B580 I need to run ddu on to remove the drivers of the 2060 super.
His case is the Antec AX57 which I struggled to get the full sized ATX B450 mobo in it.IMG-20250920-WA0006.jpgIMG-20250920-WA0008.jpg

For the price, that isn't a bad-looking case. Lacks the girth but seems to be good value. What is its structure like? I have a Montech AIR 1000, and to be honest, it is the worst case, given today's standards, that I have built in. I don't hate it, but I also have an AIR 100, and it is a better case.

It's a bit light (when glass is off), but otherwise pretty strong for the price. It's got decent cable channeling, no jaggy edges, the front panel connectors are nicely organized, the only issue is the front fans are all molex, understandable at the price. The back panel is a bit flimsy, definitely not as thick as others are.
For R500 or so bucks this case was very surprising. I've had more expensive cases from other brands be crap in comparison.

In fact for mini boards, I would happily use this case over and over. Things just worked nicely, was a quick build in it. It came with screws, cable ties and the pci blanking plates

Hehe.Full circle.

Also, more than $200.

Looks like I may need to rma that maxsun b580, endless issues trying to even get Windows to install when finally installed artifacting like crazy, should've installed the gpu when I got it, but was waiting on another part.
Now getting GPU is in recovery mode. Which I've never seen before.
Will see if this actually does anything. 20250920_165124.jpg

Okay after it did that a few times, windows booted but tiny. Installed the older whole drivers and it seems stable

Lol, neither have I. Is that with the system boot or some Windows prompt?

Thank goodness it's not 30 days after shipment, would prefer to get a replacement soon, as the 2060 super will be going to my dad and my son has an Xbox one X to play if he wants to play games

System boot. Even with old drivers it works for a bit but than just starts artifacting
What is the motherboard?

I haven't ever used an discreet Intel Arc product, but I know that it requires Resizable BAR and Above 4G Decoding. This, though, doesn't explain the behavior you expressed.

Aorus B450 Elite, those are enabled (had my rtx9070 on it) and csm is disabled.

This is my first time hearing of a GPU going into recovery mode for reasons other than debugging. That message I have never seen, and I just went through both the GPU and motherboard manuals. All I can think of is BIOS support related to initialization. Perhaps something to do with CSM and Secure Boot. Modern GPUs have a GOP, an EFI boot-time service, which may have compatibility issues with older motherboards. For the most part, it is older GPUs, and those before GOP, that have issues with newer motherboards.

Just check if the motherboard is on the latest BIOS; if it is, RMA the GPU; if not, flash it and try again.

It is on a bios from last year, there is two more from this year, will attempt a flash tomorrow.
Thinking of checking if the Soyo B550 has rebar and 4g if so, may just swap boards and chips.
4650g into the b450 and the 5700x3d into the b550. Though the b550 has a few less features being an M and Soyo. But it does have pci gen 4 so that would help a bit and it's not like the soyo has any other drivers really.
