Why would a new phone be blacklisted? Maybe greylisted?

It's probably 3rd party sellers selling contract phones. Contract goes unpaid and they resell the phone...
That sounds somewhat illegal, especially if SAs biggest online shop allows it...

yeah but they don't know, the reseller is selling a contract phone. As a rule of thumb I don't buy, secondhand phones, or modems. 90% is selling contract phones, it is usually only the higher end models, like samsung and apple, occasionally you will also find mid range ones from other brands.
With laptops and tablets I am also pretty cautious. Everyone is out to make a buck at your expense.
With takealot, 3rd parties have pretty much taken over the platform and it is rotten to the core, it isn't a sustainable practice without some serious oversight. The amount of sellers, just selling stuff, ordered from china webstores is sickening.
Same applies to bobshop, that is also gone to shyte, use to have excellent deals, it is now all just hyperinflated, secondhand junk of questionable quality.
This is just plain greed from first shop.

I get angry, when I see greed like this, not all shoppers are wise enough to shop around compare prices, end result sellers keep on getting away with screwing over people.
Saw someone trying to sell a secondhand 9600k for 4k today. God forbid you try selling something slightly over the average asking price, and get lambasted for it. Double standard much. fck I am on this tirade again, but I don't see a light at the end of the tunnel, something needs to give, and if this is the new reality, fck em all...

Check the listing carefully. It lists it at a 11% discount. Bob fees are 6.65% and if you do a premium listing it is another R100.00 even their own website is charging R600.00 +- on average more, than reputable shops, like wootware , takealot, ect.
Sellers on bob also sometimes add shipping to the price, even with bob charging the buyer a shipping fee already.
What annoys me even more is this apparent discount everyone is offering, which is a farce in itself. CPU's in general are one of the few things we can get close to or at MSRP.
The real current retail price is around the 4k to 4.3k mark, this apparent discount everyone is offering is just taking a piss...

- charging more than market prices to catch dummies that don't shop around;
and
- crooks who buy a phone on contract, don't honour the contract, then sell blacklisted (essentially stolen) goods

YeahVodacom confirmed it was blacklisted and couldn't provide a reason but the person assisting me said the phone is taken out on a contract then the customer stops paying so phone gets blacklisted.
Also factor in that not every place gets their products from the same source. Few can match certain items from wootware / evetech etc.. and even itworkup (while it lasted) was far cheaper than any other shop here.
Getting your stock from the usual rectron/tarsus/pinnacle etc is usually more expensive than what the retail/online shops sells them for incl vat.
The only annoying thing i agree on is the fake "sale / % off" which is usually hyper inflated to make an item look cheap for the unsuspecting customer.

Nope not a chance, several of these are spread around the country, meaning different suppliers and all within a small margin, and then you get the outliers. I wouldn't have made the remark in regard to the pricing if I didn't do my homework. As I said before, CPU's is the one item we get pretty darn close to US pricing.
Microcenter US is currently listing it at $239, at current exhange rate R4,147.0272. Pretty much right on the money we sell it for locally.
firstshop, geewiz is waaay above and marko just taking the piss at this point.

Not even the US shops offer the same, Micro centre is usually far cheaper than the rest.. the same comparisons you make here can be made there so it's all kinda pointless.
Bestbuy would have stuff at a higher price, then micro centre has bundle deals or an exclusive deal with amd etc. Then add in the others amazon/newegg etc.. the list goes on and never stops.
The bigger Swedish online shops usually sell well below MSRP, we wont ever see that here or even in the USA -even before the trumpening

You're right, it's not Makro direct...it's a company out by Boskruin whose primary business is web development. This looks like a somewhat scaly sideline - for that kind of margin they don't even have to grey import, they can buy from an actual store and still make a few grand on each CPU.
Kind of gross, tbh.
