New The PC Build Thread

Turning on DX12 for Mechwarrior 5 and my FPS shot up to a nice stable 200fps.

DX12 and DXR 1.2 aren't the same thing. Interestingly enough, AMD collaborated with MS to develop DXR 1.1. It was a move to align RDNA 2's architecture with DX12. Why they haven't kept up with the pace architecturally is unknown. RDNA 3 was lagging in its Shader Model development, which does make it seem like a rushed product. That said, AMD does do what it calls "workarounds", as long as it is architecturally sound.

There is more to DXR than Ray Tracing. All can be read here:

As much as some people like to hate on Nvidia, they are quite ahead here. They 'natively' support OMM and SER. Let's say that FineWine would in time be more applicable to the RTX-series than RDNA. I am also abusing FineWine here, since it was only ever relevant to AMD's GCN, which had a compute overhead that, in time, became more utilized by newer games.

It all depends, really; tech adoption at this time is still nowhere to be seen. It has now been some time since we saw Neural Block Texture Compression applied to Alan Wake 2. Since then, nothing. At least we know it is possible that older games could adopt these technologies.

The only point I am trying to make is that it shouldn't be worth considering a used RDNA 1 or 2 GPU, unless you are planning on playing older games. We have no idea where RDNA 3 is at. It could be that AMD is sandbagging it to advance RDNA 4 sales. RDNA 3 not having Cooperative Vectors, though, might spell its end sooner rather than later. Well, you can still buy brand-new RDNA 2 GPUs today.

Given the DDR price escalations of late, the Nvidia 50 Super card's with 24GB of VRAM are bound to be quite expensive once announced next year?

Not sure if it's just normal price fluctuations at Wootware or not but the Palit and ZOTAC 5070 Ti's have gone up in price by R500 and R700 respectively since this last weekend.

They were never going to launch in SA at the same price.

If nVidia were to correct a spelling mistake, Wootware would up the price.

Man. This hunting for DDR4 RAM for my motherboard has been an absolute nightmare. I cannot find a 32GB kit for it anywhere.

That G Skill Aegis 3200Mhz RAM I bought the other day for 1799 is now 3500 on Wootware and it's just sitting on my desk lol. I am still using my Corsair Vengeance 3200 RAM, but no matter what I can't find more, or any kit that works. What a ballsup lol. Anyone have any DDR RAM they are flogging by any chance? I would even swap the Aegis kit for something worse as long as it works on my mobo. :X3:

You the RAM error guy from a week or so ago?

Is the 32Gb kit not working?

Yeah. Basically it turned out they weren't on Mobo Compatibility list. B450 Chipset.

That's not a set in stone issue as that simply means it wasn't tested.

From what I see the only difference between your F4-3200C16D-32GIS and the F4-3200C16D-32GVR tested, approved and on the compatibility list is the fact that yours does not have heatsinks and the other does. Besides for that its exactly the same.

>Disable XMP
>Remove the Corsairs
>Install G.Skills
>Boot into Windows
>Wait a few minutes and reboot into BIOS
>Enable XMP
>Go to DDRAM Configuration
>Look for "PowerDown" and if its on AUTO set it to DISABLED
>Boot into Windows
>Wait a few minutes and test

Worked for another guy. Might work for you. Might not.

If not send the RAM back to Wootware.

Ask for R3549.00 back.

That'll teach 'em. :p

Well, I might as well try. I will test tonight with these settings and see what happens lol. Ja if anything at least I can sell em for a small profit if they dont work. Im just so bummed to be stuck on 16GB :(

You're not, remove the 16GB and use the 32GB by itself, though I would've rmaed the RAM as it possibly could be damaged.

Yeah I'll be as well. Not a good time to have RAM issues.

I can't remember everything you posted last time so in case you haven't yet, update your BIOS -

MSI B450 GAMING PRO CARBON AC

Do that before changing RAM.

Yeah I tried a bunch of things but still got BSODS. Even at stock standard default 2133 I was getting BSODS on my board.

I have another machine with an X570 board, so I can put it in there and actually test the ram there to see if it might be faulty. I have had faulty RAM before so I know it can happen.

If you're still in the 30 days you can easily RMA it, but I would test it in the X570 to make sure.

Not in the 30 days. Just means I would have to pay the shipping. But I can test it in my other machine so I will do that. Funnily enough the original RAM I bought for that X570 machine (My audio editing PC) was faulty, and also G Skill. I was getting BSODS while unzipping rar files lol.

Ouch that sucks, I've barely had RAM issues in years and years.

I had a faulty PSU with that build as well. Also brand new. It was a Fractal Design one. I seem to just have shitty luck with PC parts it seems. The RAM started acting up about a month after putting it in. Wootware replaced both and didnt charge me any shipping fees. They are amazing when it comes to returns. At least in my experience.

Yeah they've never given me any issues for RMAs either.

Im sending this ram back to them. They agreed to test out and even replace with another kit even if it isnt faulty.

I tried it in my other pc and cant even get it to see both sticks of ram. Thats on an Asrock Steel Legend X570.

But yeah. Starting to suspect its faulty now.

can also swop around the ram

ie the board picks up the spd settings from the ram in the first s;lot
so if you have the slowest or highest latency chips in first slot then when you apply xmp from them
then better chances that the other chipos will play nice be

slot furthest away from cpu i think but can play around to see which slot it uses
can also see via cpuz spd tab which slot it sees as slot one

or that is normally how i handle mixed ram chips

If two boards don't see it, from different chipsets there is an issue with the RAM.
For the B580 I sent back I tested it in three machines, luckily I had 3 other machines laying around as I was building one for my niece and my dad. At one point my study looked like well what it would've looked like when I was 15, PC parts laying all over the place, power supplies, cases, motherboards, the foam for me to rest the mobo on so I could test outside the case. Thermal paste somehow everywhere :-(
