Hi everybody

I have bitten the bullet, and gotten myself a blackberry 9300. So far the bullet has been hard to swallow. Coming from an android based device, this phone is worlds apart.

Posting here as I need some help to get started. Still waiting for vodacom to activate my bis. Once that is running, could anyone tell me which apps they use on the bis?

I would like to get opera mini, but I am worried it will cost extra to use.

Also would anyone know how to check if I am being charged for stuff?

Thanking ahead for all positive responses.

Cheers

Upgrade the phone to OS6. The browser that comes with the new OS is much better than Opera Mini!

What do you mean by..being charged for stuff?

:wtf:

Put the blackberry back in its box & take it back to the shop you got it from (should be good if it's within 7 days).

And then you order yourself a new HTC Desire HD. :p

Oh, and download "whatsapp" from the Android Market for free, then you have a BBM that's on flippin steroids.

Wow that's a lot of replies. And fast too. Thanks everyone.

Yeah I meant to say no charges outside bis. Would hate to download an app, and then get a bill for a couple hundred at the end of the month.

And if I could afford, I probably would have stayed with android, can't afford data charges thou. 1.2GB per month...

Really starting to like this little phone thou, much better than I expected.

Gives kingrob the thumbs up for a great idea!

But if you must BB then definitely upgrade to OS 6, the OS 5 browser isn't great and Opera incurs additional costs on top of BIS.

So my bis is now active, however, sometimes when I use the browser, the bis goes off. Is that normal?

Yup. Is that a given that the devil will b screwing me around like this for 2 years?

I don't have any BIS problems at home or at work in the Pretoria area. Been with Vodacom for years.

I posted something on here for people to avoid Vodacom for BIS.

I'm on about a 60% uptime myself - every other time I look at the phone, BIS is down. I see the stupid red clock on BBM so often, it's scary. My brother in Jackal Creek has about a 30% uptime - so the point that him having a Blackberry is pretty much pointless.

If we're out and I need to browse, I ask for friends' MTN phones which are quick, stable and always on. If my BIS is on during the time, I often still can't browse as it seems there's an issue with BB Torch/browsing. I've been told it's my phone - but it happens with a BB Bold and BB Torch. I've been told it's a SIM, but I've tried 32, 64 and 128. It boils down to a ****ty network.

I've been with Vodacom 10+ years and have multiple contracts - but after the last year with data and BIS issues, I'm awaiting each to expire and go elsewhere.

Why dont you pony up for a MTN sim and a PAYG blackberry subscription for a month and see if it's an improvement. My Vodacom BIS is rock solid but that's what I would do.

But what would that do?
Confirm that Vodacom is crappy?
