New to BB, pls help

Yeah. You never know what you gonna get...

On a side note thou, ran my battery flat, put the phone on charge overnight, woke up, tried to turn it on and I got nothing. After multiple battery pulls, it graciously came on. What did I do wrong? Or do I have a dud phone?

It took me 4 hours to destroy the OS on my first Blackberry. I could understand a stalled boot sequence but to not start at all? That's not right...

Timken what made you decide to downgrade?

A couple of things actually. Mostly telkom. In 5 years we had our lines stolen 37 times. Cancelled telkom, but to stay connected, and have internet, I took the bis. And I can't afford android, no matter how much more superior user experience is. But the more I use the bb, the more I get drawn into it.

ja I hear its costly, but when i realised how data hungry my HTC was just shut off all the automated updating and such and only update those things when I want to (just like my PC)

Hmm, maybe I should have started the thread as...

Hi, my name is Timken, and I am a addicted to technology.

On a serious note thou, nothing irrtates me more, than knowing something is not working to its max potential.

Well you must be a very irritated Person living in SA :P

i have a 9300 which because i changed contract Bis was only actiev from today, I can no longer make calls, on myvodacom BIS is active, on my phone its not connected.
I feel like going back to my old phone. Vodacom support sucks!!! tired of holding on.

I feel ur pain. Noticed that bis drops off 3g, and only at my work place, if I force it to 2g, it stays connected. And also only web browsing the forums. The app world and facebook work fine.

Go check under the options menu - mobile network - and make sure network mode 2G and 3G are selected, noticed if I force 3G only and I don't have coverage at all, I loose complete cell phone service unable to make calls or receive any calls.

Just remember setting it to 2G and 3G will cut between 10% and 50% off your battery life depending on your level of actual 3G coverage, the less coverage you have for 3G the more time it spends scanning for it. Personally i leave it on 2G and switch it up to 3G when i need to download something, but for text mails and IM and even browsing edge is more than good enough.

I fired up my torch with mtn beginning January and they fluffed up my BIS big time. Once I got that sorted I have been happy with the network stability, I would like to see 3G more often but EDGE is fine for my puropses. Given MTN has always been the leader (ducks flame) but expensive. Vodacom always falls short on high end but supplies the man on the street with a cheap solution.
