Maybe your credit is done? R10 won't get you very far (5mb)....

I had a MTN 3G card in Stellenbosch when I was there and we found that their signal is in general better than Vodacom's, so I think you are on the right track...

Lastly: try and visit Java Cafe in Church Street (look for "Kerk Straat" in Stellenbosch, not sure whether the sign is in English)... they have good broadband wifi access at a decent price.

You probably might want to walk up Dorp street to spot that, those little coffee shops on the corners [like Java Cafe] is hard to spot while driving and silly little circles and tourists errr..students walking right in front of you with cameras flashing ;)
