Hi all. I'm looking to buy a new 55" lcd, and was wondering if anyone had any tips? Is it worth paying extra for a (for example) Samsung Smart TV or should I get a non-smart TV and buy a Roku or Apple TV to use with it?

I am in the same boat, my trusty old Sony Bravia died and will cost R2500 to fix. And I will rather put that towards a new TV...
I always believe in getting the best tech possible for my budget. I have seen a few times that the picture quality of the non-smart TVs is not up to scratch compared to the smart TVs. And the non-smart TVs don't always have all the inputs and outputs I would want.
I have had a MyGica media player (used Kodi on it - OK but the MyGica player the doesn't support Android TV interfaceand standard Android is a chore to use with an infrared remote) and now I am using an old PC with Kodi and an air mouse/keyboard remote which is OK. Biggest chore is having to manage a TV, PC (PC is noisy and BIG i.e. eyesore in lounge, starting Kodi etc). My point is, I want an all in one solution where one remote does everything and the software is up to scratch. As far as I can tell the app selections for smart TVs is getting pretty good so I will probably be going with one, eventually. Whether it will be webOS, Android or Tizen based I have yet to decide.
