Where can I go buy new tyres for my car in Pretoria area?
225 17 inch tyres

I'm looking for fairly good prices.

Have you use them before? How much do the charge to come out?

Have done, yes. The price you see on the site is what they charge. Balanced and fitted. I haven't seen a brick-and-mortar store with better pricing...

Thanks for the info and help. Appreciate it.
Will give them a call on Monday.

+1 for tyretraders.co.za as i have only heard good things about them from people who used them. The only issue is they obviously can't do alignment but places generally charge between R180 (Autowiel) and R225 (TWT) for that so just pop in somewhere once you have your new tyres.

Tyretraders looks quite pricey but have a much wider range of tyres available.

While everyones talking about tyres...my car takes 225/45/18 tyres on the front wheels and 245/45/18 tyres on the rear wheels. Is there any other combination that will fit or do I have to stick to these exact specs. These tyre dimensions are pretty rare and quite pricey for the decent brands. (I read somewhere that 265/35/18 with fit on the rear as well hence the question)

Well I just changed mine yesterday at a Dunlop center (Rivonia) exactly the same size and I paid R850 each including balancing and alignment for all 4 PLUS they yokahomas... Just my 2 cents worth...

What size might that be (i do see that you mention "the same size")?

I will definetly have to see if there is a Dunlop Center near me.

Err ja..Tyretraders.co.za seems more expensive than shopping around for tyres. Charging R4800 for 255/55R19's that cost R3650.

Here is a comparison for you http://www.tyretraders.co.za/index.php?page_name=more&tyre_id=3490 vs http://www.autostyle.co.za/product/17862/Pirelli2254517Tyresp6000/

It seems to be due to different speed ratings, "Y" from Tyre Traders "P" from Autostyle. Check the following site for explaination of speed ratings:

As luck would have it I started my day with a flat this morning. It was peak traffic on a main road, so I had no option but to destroy the tyre by driving on the flat to get off the main roadway and to level ground. It's a good thing on the one hand, as my spare tyre had never seen the road and it's given the impetus I need to replace tyres all 'round. Sooooooooooo... my afternoon has been spent phoning and emailing all over the place and it's become quite clear that, on a tyre of around R1,200, you're talking of a difference of R100 this way or that from one place to the next. My information gathering covered Hi-Q, Supaquick, Quickfit, Malas, Tyres in Transit (similar to tyretraders) and everyone else I could find that stocks Bridgestone.

I'm quite looking forward to Tyres in Transit's response tomorrow, as they prominently claim "up to 20% cheaper" on their website. If that doesn't pan out it'll give a handy opportunity for blowing off some steam...
