so i read on the mybb news there is new undersea cable going live this friday with 1.5tps of bandwidth

was wondering will it give sat3 latency or just as crap as seacom?

and which isp will be using it?

it says mtn bought loads on it, so i take it mtn will be using it, hope it will lower there prices :)
 
Roughly same as Seacom, it runs roughly the same route as Seacom as well.

If you want a cable to compete with SAT3 latencies, that will be WACS which is here end of 2011.
 
it will be some time before we as consumers see any of this bandwidth. The resellers need to put together their commercial offerings first.
do their maths and homework....i'd say it will be a month maybe more before we as humble consumers see any of this bandwidth for sale.

It is using better technology than seacom and certainly Sat3. so in theory should get better latency.

Latency would theoretically be the same.
In practice it depends on the amount of hops (quality of the hops) and distance the signal have to travel. So technology may play a role.

More bandwidth to play with is nice and having more backup systems is always good.
 
Well you are entitled to believe what you want. How about you wait till an ISP starts making use of the cable and do the tests yourself. Since it is meaningless debating this here. Looking at the maps of the cable, the length ect, (distance * speed_of_light * 2 = latency), its going to be relatively the same as Seacom.

I guess the point is, Eassy might have lower latencies than Seacom, but not much, and not nearly as low as SAT3, purely because SAT3 covers a shorter distance. Also, I didn't say their latencies will be exactly the same, I said relatively the same.
