New UTU

UTU?? Is that the new USB modems name?

Isnt it that black one that someone has posted pics of before on the forum?

Yes I saw that one, but I would like to see the modem on their site. And yes, that is the name of the new USB modem

Curious

It's curious to see how many wireless antennas one sees while travelling in Africa - Lusaka, Dar, Nairobi, Mombasa - a sign that SA is behind in legislation...

very pretty. when's the new modem gonna be available?
On the signup website there is an option for it,

Or maybe find out from the iBurst resellers

cool. what's the difference between USU and USD. because i see USD has a USB port too. also, i'd wanna use the antenna for better signal (if it works). can anyone assist? i doubt iBurst or any salesman would help me correctly.

Hi Kaeiou,

Looked into their website but couldnt find any USU/USD,
I know the UTU uses USB cable so it doesnt need external power unlike the UT-D [desktop Modem]
In terms of mobility the UT-U & UT-C comes in hand.

Not sure if they have external antennas for the UT-U, but have seen a buddy of mine with the new UT-C antenna.

The last time i heard they had a 7 day trial period, maybe use that to test it.
:D

Difference not much.....

The UTD's drew too much current that's why they had a external power source and can't draw the current from the USB ,that's why the signal is generally better with a UTD....up to 3 times better than a UT-C unfortunately :D
....but they are more suited to networked environments...... coz of the eth port .

The signal on the UTU is pretty dam good! Comparable and sometimes even better than the UTD simply coz you can move it aroung more freely....

Can i exchange my UT-D for a UTU:D

The UTU probably supports the 2mbps they will be rolling out to compete with Vodacom (Just a guess.... no solid facts)..... So us UTD ers is buggered :D

Hmmmm never know they mght have incorporated it in the architecture....the protocol currently used is supposed to be capable of 2Mbps *I think*..... I imagine it would just be a firmware upgrade to the existing hardware.....although as you saw the new range is in black *to match all the clone PC's from AOpen and Gigabyte.... ok ok and the not so clone PC's like the Dell's and HP's *

The Arraycom iBurst Technology 'as a whole'........ is supposed to be capable of up to 16Mbps...wonder if Verizon would have a fit if iBurst Group said: listen erm we releasing a slightly faster version, can you handle the throughput?

Verizon: Really how fast *palms starting to sweat*
iBurst Group: Oh we dunno in the region of 16Mbps......
Verizon: *Guy turns blue and collapses* :D
iBurst Group: Hello.....Hello........Hello *MTN Jingle*

..........now that would be fun! :D.......

The Account Manageress at Verizon would probably call and say: listen you might wanna cancel your Diginet *at a couple thousand a month* links and just go Wireless!' ........Hahahaha

Im shure the UTD's are capable of 2Mbps. No ways even Iburst could have been so short sighted to sell R2800 modems that everyone is just going to have to throw out in a year or two.

In Australia they still use the same modems are are upping their speed constintely, up to 8MB/s some time i believe.

So it shouldnt be a problem. Is that really the new Iburst site though? OK it is.. my bad quite nice... alot faster, has it moved off https? Okay yes it has.. keep answering my own questions here.
