I have been a sentech classic package user for the last 2 1/2 years. Circumstances beyond my control have seen me having to migrate to a less expensive package, and so I have the VMC lite 1 gig package.

This was only loaded on Monday and I have two queries please if anyone can advise a newbie like me?

  • I am having problems staying connected to intenet explorer with the 3g package. I keep getting an error reading and hen notification that internet explorer has to close. I am not having this problem with sentech. What could the reason be? I have made the 3g packae my default connection. I would be grateful for any advice?
  • I am as said on a 1gig contract data package. Shgould I reach my cap before month end, do I have the ability to buy a pre paid / top up package to add onto my cotract time?

If anyone can advise me as said, I would as said be most obliged

Just to clear things up and ask a few questions: You have purchased a Vodacom My GIG One contract? There is no such thing as a VMC Lite 1 gig package. Also did you get the E220 or the E272? Which version of Windows and VMC Lite are you using?

So are you saying Internet explorer is crashing? Does the VMC screen indicate that you are still connected? If so why don't you give FireFox a go.

Yes you can. You can use Vodacom4me.co.za or call 155 free from a Vodacom phone. Some people prefer calling as they will confirm that the bundle has been loaded where you might experience some delay with v4m. Note that you will be on pro-rata for the first month. So it will not be the full 1g. So call earlier rather than later to check your usage.

My package is the vodafone mobile connect lite

I am using windows xp serice pack 2 and the stats of my package are posted above

Yep interet explorer just crashes, but I don't ever lose the connection and can still send and receive emails. Firefox? what is that? :o

Thanks I am relieved about being able to top up!! I have never used more than 3 gigs of my sentech and that is with my partner downloading large things and bit torrents etc , but I panic at the though of being limited!! :D

Ok, maybe Nashua market things slightly differently. It would appear you have the monitoring of your account under control. Note that the stats can be anything between 3-24 hours behind, so be cautions when downloading using bittorrent. I would suggesting installing something like NetLimiter to monitor your traffic.

FireFox is a browser. You can get FireFox here. Most will agree that once you make the switch from IE to FireFox you won't look back :p

Indeed :)

Today is officially the last day of my sentech contract! I have used sentech since August 2005, so that is three years, and as said I will miss the virtually unlimited gigs.

Sooooo onto vodacom vmc lite package.

I still have the problem with internet explorer disconnecting when on vodacom vmc lite.

I have however downloaded firefox and today have been on for half an hour and ... no disconnection ! Yay!!

I am still learning about this vmc lite and the whole 3g package thing. Will take me a wealth of time to read through all the threads, but I do know the info is there. I am still a novice and do not understand much so seem a bit dof

So can I ask some questons/ air some views?

  1. I cannot understand why I was suplied with a disc which loaded the program "vodafone mobile connect", but then the modem itself when plugged into a usb port and whenever connected automatically loads a program called "vmc lite" anyway , and the two are not compatible and seem to cause problems. I have more prblems when using the vmc lite program than with the other. So How do I resolve this?
  2. why does the vmc lite program show as a "3g" connection, but when I use the mobile connect program it shows as "hsdpa"
  3. what is the difference and which is better to use. Can one choose to only connect using one particular connection ? If so where, or is the connection chosen automatically
  4. I read about the different lights meaning different connects i.e. blue for 3g, green for 2g, cyan for?? etc . Never new this before! so nice to know. Proves my point that I always get more and better info from this site than from software manufacturers or service providers!!! :)
  5. can one update the software for the modem and where does one go to do this
  6. Where do I go to learn more about this modem and about setting this modem to optimium settings suited to my needs ?

Thanks guys for any info supplied and for being available to answer / inform me. It is much appreciated.

Think of the Disc as a backup measure. IF VMCLite gives problems, you can use VMC(which is just a fuller version of VMCLite).

IMO, VMC(the one on the disc) are meant for the Data Cards, but the E220 is also supported.

What you can do is, Right Click My Computer, then select Manage. Then you click on Disk Management, and Right Click the Drive your E220 is associated with. Then you click on Change Drive Letter and Paths.... The Drive will be highlighted, and all you need do is click on remove and say 'OK' to whatever messages pops up.

Doing this will remove the CD-ROM drive associated with your E220, thus stopping VMCLite from starting up and conflicting with VMC.

why does the vmc lite program show as a "3g" connection, but when I use the mobile connect program it shows as "hsdpa"

On VMCLite, HSDPA is shows as 3G+ and in VMC HSDPA is shown as HSDPA.

The better one to use is the one that works best for you. In your case, that would be VMC(the one on the Disc).

Cyan for HSDPA.

can one update the software for the modem and where does one go to do this

You can.

You can go to Vodacom's Website and check the Mobile Data Section(under Services), and download VMCLite version 3.2.1.156, or if you prefer VMC 9.3.

I'm sure your modem has the latest firmware, so you wont need to update that.

Where do I go to learn more about this modem and about setting this modem to optimium settings suited to my needs ?

Just search through the forum for information.
