New vs. 2nd Hand console purchases?

Hi there,

After burning my fingers, almost literally on buying an xbox on gumtree, i am guessing its safer to go for a new purchase. Is it safe to assume that whether you buy from Game or Incredible connection you paying the same price? If that is not the case, where would be the cheapest place to buy an xbox in cpt or are 2nd hand sales better value for money due to the additional accessores you often get with it?

I think if you're gonna buy 2nd hand, stick to the places like mybb, xbox-360.co.za and ps3za.co.za and you'll be fine. The people selling generally aren't fly by nights and are willing to help if there is a problem.
 
If you cannot tell the difference between a xenon, zephyr, falcon or jasper i suggest you stick to new consoles only.

5 of my friends bought second hand xbox360's and they are all door stops.
Since then, they went and purchased new 360's.

Hyperama has the Xbox360 arcade for R2000.
I go to many cash crusaders stores and see them for R1200 or even cheaper.
Thing is, none of the models i have seen have been Jasper model 360's.
 
Well unless you know for a fact that the 2nd hand model you are purchasing is that of a Jasper, don't take the chance. It could probably be an already fixed RROD console, which can fail at ANYTIME again. People on BoB and such are hardly 100% honest.

Also the unit might even be banned from LIVE.

thanks for the info guys, tending to agree with the buy new option. does the issue around RROD also apply to Elite models? The xboxes I have seen for sale 2nd hand are average 2years old and I have no idea how to tell the difference between Jasper, Casper, Falcon or Eagle... All places seem to be selling the Xbox arcade for R1999. Will update you on the outcome. Thanks again.

The Xbox 360 Elite deal that Smooth Criminal mentioned is the best. You are getting 2 games worth a R1000 free plus the Elite has a 120Gb Hard drive that costs R1700 alone.
