New VW Polo

Nope dont like it at all. Looks to me like they tried to copy the opel astra and the new corsa.....

I guess it is the only shot they have at the competition - try to look like them :D As we all know, VW designers are the laziest ones around.

But, despite all the GM pains, the new Astra looks pretty good from what I have seen on the spy photos. Same story as it was with the Astra H that looked light years ahead of the Mk5.

As much as I hate VW the new TFSI 1.4 engine found in the Tiguan is pretty nippy. It has a supercharger AND turbo so it outputs a nice dosage of power and performance.

Sadly it is still a VAG unit so the one thing it will do (sooner than a GM unit) is die :p !!!
 
VW's 3.3 litre/100km Polo

With the launch of the new Volkswagen Polo at last week’s Geneva Motor Show, the German carmaker also unveiled an important fuel efficient concept version which is destined for production.

VW claims that the Polo BlueMotion concept car is one of the most economical cars in the world.

With a state-of-the-art 1.2-litre TDI engine the Polo BlueMotion has an average fuel consumption of just 3.3 litres per 100km.

Furthermore its diesel engine reduces the Polo’s C02 emissions to just 87 g/km


The Polo BlueMotion weighs in at just 1 080kg thanks to an array efficiency measures, including an aerodynamic package for the body that is lowered by 10 millimeters (including modified front end), an aerodynamically optimised underbody and low rolling resistance tires on 15-inch alloy wheels.

Altogether, these modifications yield fuel savings totaling 0.8 liters. This has lowered CO2 emissions by about 20%.

Other efficiency technology includes a start-stop system and regenerative braking, which helps to recover energy that would otherwise be lost in driving in as efficient a way as possible.

Market launch of the most fuel efficient Polo yet is expected in February 2010.

i think it's ugly. you could pick up a ford fiesta or mazda 2 for that price. Too boxy for me. But then i'm a chick so perhaps it just appeals to the testosterone fueled species.

Actually i drive the current shape VW Polo 1.6 and love my black beauty so i disagree that VW's aren't chick cars. See more chicks in them than men.

Err you didnt watch properly, your old english boyfriend forgot to mention that the car has a 100+ litre tank... not better fuel economy, better mileage but thats only because of the tank size....

Its supposed to be fuel efficient and safer for the environment.

Rouxenator isn't that a bit of an ignorant comment to make. I drive a VW because i like the new shape and was economical and well priced. Not due to the fact that i didn't know what to choose so just opted for what i see is commonplace on the road.

The car does have an electrical system that needs generative power. In fact all cars do - this role is usually taken by the alternator which puts a load on the ICE, which in turn consumes fuel. Regenerative braking allows for the alternator to be switched off during certain conditions. It's already seen on other non hybrid cars like BMW/Mini's efficient dynamics cars.

Also, I highly doubt there's an old Jag that can do 3.3l/100km.

Yeah blue it seems you are right about the BMW ed copy. I did some more reading on this concept of theirs and they are very vague about the regenerative braking system they use. My guess was that it is not the compressed air system so either it is a flywheel system or just plainly an extra alternator. Most likely it is the last, like BMW ed, as you stated.

Also, as part of BlueMotion III slated for 2010, it seems they have started on a Toureg with a V6 engine and it is described as a parallel hybrid (like the Toyota Prius). It can drive on the electric motor alone if you stay below 50km/h (how practical is that) with no mention of the range in all electric mode. A very bizarre aproach indeed...
