New Washing Machine

Funny you mention this, my girlfriend went past Stax in Dunkeld yesterday, Siemens is essentially made by Bosch with them looking almost identical and sharing many parts.
Well Bosch is a good brand no doub,but...

You cant say because Porsche is part of VAG, a VW is just like a Porsche...

Top loader is inefficient with water and electricity though
Perhaps older ones, but newer ones have made great strides in that. I replaced my 6kg Samsung with a 13kg top loader, so far the top loader would seem to be a little more efficient as you can do over twice the load.
It also seems to use less water as with the old front loader would push out a lot of water where those doesn't, it has even cleaned something's better than my front loader.
Than you look at the cost of a bigger front loader to get the same capacity and it'll take quite sometime to catch up in the initial outlay.

yeah the capacity was one of the main reasons we wanted to go with a top loader, and like the one we bought can do a water save cycle for a a second wash using the first washes rinse cycle water.

No thanks. Not dealing with all that fluff/lint again.

EDIT: OP also has countertop to deal with. Pushing the toploader in and out everytime you do laundry is a major PITA.

Not even an issue with that on the new one either. A clean king sized comforter that I don't need to go externally for.

Funny then that they still have lint filters.

I finally managed to get our washing machine up and running last night  The part was delivered yesterday so I reassembled the door and then learnt the hard way that the correct way is to not remove it. There is a mounting bracket inside the front panel that it screws on to that is not permanently attached. I had to strip more of the machine to get to the mounting bracket and fit it back before refitting the door and then everything else that I stripped. It is running again and my girlfriend thinks it is quieter now but I don't think that was because of what I did. So, R250 odd to repair the door release latch versus R'000's for a new washing machine.

So now you have a quiet girlfriend and a quieter machine.

Win Win.

That was something to get used to with the toploader I bought a year ago, the fluff is insane.
Still the 13kg capacity makes up for it so its not too bad.

Bought this one last week, it was R3799, on special in Makro.

Defy have strong local presence, good for warranty purposes.

Our old Defy lasted 12 years - I don't believe in buying expensive washing machines

My Bosch has been flawless for the past 7 years. Defy are getting worse in terms of quality and service.

Not true - they have lower end products, mid and high end. I would say that most appliance manufacturers have the same tiered products. so as to cater for all LSM groups. I had a Bosch kettle, a "cheapie", I got what I paid for.

Front loader has 1 advantage, gravity..

Front is nice if you want to stack dryer washer and dish on top of each other. Or if you want under counter. Top loader needs lots of vertical space, not ideal for a small space. Both have pros and cons. Front uses less water than a top loader. Top loader usually can take bigger loads compared to what you pay for a front loader that can take a biggish load. Top loader is cheaper? Front loader probably works out cheaper in long run depending how much you use.

Either way, get the best that you can afford and is the most practical space wise.
