I'm not one to use the CPA as an excuse, but I feel like I have a case.

Last year December, I bought a Casio watch from a store in Pretoria. I had it adjusted to fit my arm at the store before leaving with it. Since then, the pin on one of the links has fallen out/broken twice resulting in the watch falling off my arm - the most recent one (last weekend) damaging the face/bezel.

I called both Casio and the shop to discuss what to do now. Casio say they'll repair it for me, but the guarantee only covers the electronics/inside of the watch - not the strap or the face, so I'll have to pay for the repairs. I tried explaining to the shop I bought it at that I feel I shouldn't have to pay for this, as its not my fault the watch is just falling off my arm. They've told me its not their issue.

Who is right here? Should I have to pay for a repair on a watch I just bought because its build quality is not up to scratch? Am I allowed to return it as its not functioning as advertised (and by that I mean staying on my arm like a watch should be...)?

I don't want to rush to HelloPeter, but I do feel like Casio should help me out too - its their watch that has an issue.

What do you guys think?
Thanks

Personally I'd tell you to go jump in a lake i were Casio and the store. It just sounds like you're thinking of an excuse to have your damaged watch fixed without footing the bill.

It sounds like the warranty is clear in what it covers. If a link breaks tough, how do they know you weren't very aggressive with the watch links?

I'd write it off to bad luck and move on.

Rude. But I understand your point. I'm not looking for an excuse to get a free repair. But if I do end up having to pay, its definitely going to put me off Casio. I'm just hoping someone could at least meet me halfway instead of accusing of trying to get away with a free repair.

But yes, might have been a bit strongly worded. Accept my most humble apologies. Also, you're not going to get a free watch fix.

Haha picture made my day.

Well good to know where I stand. Will still visit the shop and explain my problem in person.

You should have complained the 1st time it happened.
The second time you should have requested your money back if the 1st repair did not work.

Well it didn't get repaired after the first time, I just got another link (from my spares) put on.

There in is the pity. That pin is probably meant to be screwed in ( have a watch where it is), and you probably also did not have the right equipment to screw it in. With the first mishap you did not give them a chance to resolve problem. By now the watch is showing signs of physical damage. So how are they to know if the strap problem was there prior to or after the face got damaged in a fall? You will have to speak nicely, and explain calmly.

Sadly you could possibly have ruined a pay-nothing repair. I suspect that if anything, they might at best cover half the repair costs.

I didn't add the link myself. Guess I should have tried resolving it the first time, but there was no damage and I put it down to a bad pin. Guess there was more than one though....
