One of the big themes from the operators at the conference today was how difficult it is to deal with ICASA. I did not hear one good thing about the Regulator from anyone today (operators and consumers alike) and it's sad because they should be on our (consumers') side. We should be allies with ICASA because they're supposed to be the consumer watch dog.

It's not hard to be disillusioned with ICASA really when after the extensive, lengthy and expensive process of investigating ADSL provision in this country, the whole time being bombarded by irrefutable evidence from internationally recognized experts that we the consumers are being exploited by Telkom, Paris Mashile turns around and says there is no proof of any of the above, and fails to address the key issues of the investigation (pricing and bandwidth limits).

Think some people prefer them for gaming etc. because they're SAIX accounts and SAIX-IS peering isn't always the best.

Yes.
You can only access local internet sites, newsservers, locally hosted games and other local users (through torrents or other p2p).
Openweb does offer the service of openbrowse, which allows you to surf international websites that have been cached locally.
Some .co.za websites are not hosted locally and thus can't be accessed from local only.
Sometimes you do received some international bandwidth on a local only account, but do not take this for granted.
