New wisp's

I'd love too see them get up and running, but it is true... It is an uphill struggle from the start... Very dodgy bussiness with all the monopolies and laws and ... BEE going on

:)

Pity, once one of these smaller guys get going properly, we finaly might see some competition in the wisp market.......

btw don't you guys have a landline?

there are a number of wisps providing great service in SA and a large number of big corporates and municipalities using their services....

sawireless - on the legal side are you operating under a VANS licence?

Nice Price.

Who cares? Sawireless, let me know as soon as your service is available in Bedfordview. If it was available I'd pay the R1300 now!

do a forum search on sawireless...

you should care - with a VANS licence the chances of their equipment being confiscated and your money disappearing are a lot less than if they have no licence at all...

Ummmm.. i see confiscation of equipment as prevention of communication and access to information, which is a crime..

Anyone who has their equipment confiscated should take the matter straight to Constitutional Court, Communications Act se moer.. good for making paper planes tho.

and you are probably correct (i see it more as the preservation of telkomonopoly) but the wispies are generally not able to do this and clients can end up with nothing; their was an initiative to try and get a class action going on this basis but it lacked support....

i do not have a problem with wisps needing some form of licensing and light regulatory touch...but if the wisp does not even have a VANS licence then they are clearly outside the law and, very recent history tells me, they will be pinged one way or the other; if they do have a VANS licence (most of the ones which have stayed alive do) then the legal position is so muddy that ICASA will not touch

the phrase for the moment is that "the telecommunications act is broken" and that it is going to be completely replaced by the convergence bill...given recent demonstrations of the obvious direct influence telkom and the cellco's etc have on the dOc & the spinelessness of ICASA this strikes much fear and loathing into my heartses..

I'm willing to sacrifice the R1300 for a decent internet connection. It shows how desparate some have become all because of Telkom & the useless Poison Ivy.

R1300 is a small sacrifice to pay.......anything for uncapped access, especialy if it does not involve bloodsucking TELKOM

Can't even get onto their website either, doesn't look too promising... I think I'm rather going to stick with the big boys, the ones who have been going for a while now. Cheaper start up fees and more packages to offer...

Hi Guys,

Just thought I'd let you all know what's in the pipeline with Web Intact...

I am part of a team of people with substantial business and RF skills who have just joined up with Web Intact with the view to enabling the company to become a reliable alternative to the current Wisp's.

Work has already begun on upgrading all the existing Access Points to a higher standard, and already improved service reliabilty is being provided.

We have access to all the major high site points around Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and Swaziland, and you can be sure these will be exploited to offer superior coverage for those areas in these early stages. There are some AP's in Durban and Cape Town, but for now the coverage is primarily in the PWV area.

At this stage the setup cost is more in the region of R2200, and that's not too bad set against the comparitive cost of an ADSL modem.

Thereafter, the subscription fees are in the region of R300 - R1000, depending on your bandwidth requirements.

The website is on the list of 'to do' items for the shakeup and upgrade of the company and network, but you can be assured of a vast improvement... the help line has already had it's turn bein' 'whipped into shape'....

Any questions, please feel free to direct them to me.

Chat soon,

Chris

We should boicot these Wisp's they are stuffing up the spectrum. Rather share
the uncapped R1300 adsl between 3 houses with a JAWUG Linksyswrt54.
Daffy can provide more info. Uncapped ADSL has basically made WISP's redundant.

thank you wisp - yup, and the other up side is you don't have to deal with you-know-who... ;)
and there's no waiting... it's like ordering DSTV... call, deliver, install... all done in a few days. You can share it with your neighbours too...

In fact, there are businesses already renting hot spot and wifi access that are fed with uncapped ADSL lines... it's going to become quite commonplace pretty soon, especially in townhouse complexes.

I also would use 'redundant' with hesitation - especially in South Africa... people said the same thing about two-way radio when cell phones came about, and they're still here...

Ok, I try and give you benefit of the doubt, but "there is no waiting" and "all done in few days" surely means there is waiting and could also safely in your sake mean a week or even 3 weeks.

Why dont companies just give it straight, "2 days till installation, if we take longer you get installation free" or something like that.

Please stop with the backtalk, and talk to us straight in the face. We want to listen.

ps. Another thing thats starting to tick me off, few if not all, companies hang out here in the forum with only few posts, ONLY ABOUT WHAT THEY OFFER. Its like, lets use the forum for our marketing, **** the users.

I might be little of course here, but I feel strongly bout this.
