Hi,

OK im not a pc fanatic or ever had internet before (at home) but recently i just purchased a pc and now want internet...i plan on using the net mostly for downloading small files like free pc apps etc i alos want to use it to download big files from my work server (by big i mean like 7gig files etc)
i was thinking about neotel lite for R469pm my questions are as follows :

1. is R469 the total monthly fee (im on a tight budget)
2. Do i still need to buy a device that connects to the net or will i get one free with the package ?
3. This is an unlimited downloads package right ? (meaning no cap) i can donwload as much as i want with no scary bills...
4. Whats the general speed of downloads ? (i dont expect much for the price but would like to know..) and can i do anything to make the downloads faster like downloading a download manager or something ?
5.Will they instal everything for me? or would i have to connect it to the net myself ? i really wouldnt know how....

sorry if this has been asked before and yes i have tried the neotel website (couldnt find all the info i was looking for)

thanks for your replies...and no i wont be using it all the time which is why i want the lite option and not prime ...

1. Yes.
2. Device is included.
3. No cap.
4. 156Kbps
5. It's usb. So plug it in, install drivers and A for away.

A 7GB file will take you over 100 hours to download (if running full speed @ 156kbps)
Feasible?

wow....thanks for the quick replies....as to whether is feasible or not...def not! but like i said im on a tight budget and the prime doesnt look much better to be honest :( im not gonna use the free sms's and stuff like that so that doesnt really interest me...just want to download now and again ...btw is there a big difference between the lite download speed compared to the prime ???

Huge difference.
Lite is basically 56K old analog internet.
Prime Unlimited is R999 and you can download alot and its quite fast.
I'm getting average of 100kB/s true download speed.

Prime is 10x to 15x faster.

im assuming that neotel was the cheapest...am i correct or are there some cheaper faster options out there lol bear in mind i dont have a landline at home for telkom etc
im using my company's 3g card in my laptop at the moment...i just buy like R80 worth of airtime and convert to data bundles but to be honest i find that a lil expensive and it doesnt really suite my requirements .... (R80 lasts like maybe 2days if im lucky)

small b indicate bits and big B bytes. There is 8 bits in a byte so that's why the KB/s value is so much smaller. This is the value you would normally see when downloading files.

Rather take 384kb/s ADSL

Will cost approx:
R130 per month ADSL rental. (as long as u have a phone line at home)
R70/gig of Shaped ADSL - u can perhaps get this cheaper if u shop around.
What about compressing the files?
It may just make your budget.

EISH....its a good thing i asked first before i ran out and signed this contract !
now i understand the slowness of it all lol ....
