Newbie trying to start going off the grid - help

Hi Everyone,

Please bear in mind I know very little to nothing so I'm trying to understand whats the best option(s)

I work from home and Eskom is working on my nerves. So started just looking into a UPS for my fibre router en extender then someone who is very impressed with his system recommended I get the same.

He has (excuse if my spelling is not correct)
1x 24v 24va inverter
2x 12v 100amp batteries

Eg. If I can afford the above, is it overkill or a good setup?

In my 3 bedrooms I have 2 TV's(DSTV), 2 fans, Fibre router and cell phone chargers
StudyRoom - Laptop, Screen, Fan, Printer
TV Room - TV + DSTV
2 Fridges + cell phone Chargers

What can I use simultaneously on that setup or are there better options/ideas? Thanks for your help

I am going to give you advice that I have recieved:

You need to know your usage, i.e. monitor your devices usage so that you know it peak usage and its average usage.

Do you want everything to be online during load shedding or do you want only a few items.

A decent system but not fully off grid, based on quotations I received, for an average 3 bedroom house is about R175k to R200k. This will limit the impact of LS on your lifestyle tremendously.
 
1 TV + decoder and sound, fibre router, PC and a lamp for about 4 hours. Forget about your fridge/freezer etc.

Realised I mess up, you not asking about solar.

Then 3 batteries and and invertor should get you quite far i.e. R25k x 3 for the batteries and the invertor R35k plus installation fees.

Thank you - what is the size/capacity of the batteries and inverter you are refering to?
 
A Mecer 720W with 1 battery powers our 65" TV + Apple TV + DSTV + NUC + HomePod for well over 2 hours if thats any indication.

Hubble AM batteries and Sunsynk 8kw you can also go 5kw invertor for R25k. This is future proof as you can connect a generator and solar panel in future.

Thanks, so with the setup I mentioned one cannot later connect Solar to it?
 
Anyone know how to interpret an Effergy's log file from kwh into what can tell me how many KVA i would need? I have pulled my stats for a month from the unit but i'm not really sure what i'm looking at.
 
Firstly, what is your budget. It's impossible to recommend anything without knowing what you are able to spend.

Secondly, what is your intention? Make sure all those items stay powered for +-3 hours?
