I see alot of specials on at the moment and was thinking about getting the

384k Uncapped with SAOL @ R499 (Includes ADSL line rental)

my question is will this be suitable for downloading movies etc ?

i was reading up on newsserver to get me up to speed on what i need if i do decide to get uncapped but what i want to know is will the 348k offer suits my needs ?

i want to use the interwebs mainly for downloading :p

please help with any info and yes i have used the search function first however i see that SAOL don't put a limit on their 348k line so i also want to know what speeds i can expect etc ...
 
you can use a 9600kbps line for downloading movies. the question is when do you want your movie by :)

384k is by no means fast, but it will run. and if you dont mind waiting a day or so for a download it will work fine.
 
hmmm maybe i should wait until someone offers a 512k uncapped solution for around the same price ?
 
You'd have to pay for a news server. SAOL don't have access to the SAIX news server even though they resell SAIX bandwidth:erm:

On uncapped, you can use an international news server but you have to pay which adds to the total cost of the package.

Torrents, however, are free:)

I've been on 384 and 512 and I didn't really notice a difference between the two. I know it's 16KB/s but after having been on 4meg, it felt like I was back on 384
 
If that's what you can afford right now, surely there's no harm in getting it for now and upgrading the line later?

(Or am I missing something here?)
 
I was on 384k for yonks... I downloaded between 60 and 80 gigs a month.
Not bad for the price.

Ryu! Go for it! You can always upgrade later if you have to.

using what ? torrents or newservers

don't you need to upload if you using torrents ?

guess i'll get it and use torrents then unless the newsservers are not too badly priced. anyone have the prices for int newservers approx ?
 
astraweb have a special for 11$ a month - very good service and unlimited

otherwise you can always buy prepaid newserver bandwidth eg. 20$ for 100gb then you can use it at your own pace.
 
Whatever you do just dont get digichilli.. Its dead slow. they having hectic probs at the moment.
