But you can get all of that stuff in your OP from SA retailers can't you? Take into account the shipping cost, the fact that you'll get no love from local suppliers when you have a warranty issue, it's not worth it imo. I haven't gone and compared those prices to local, but I doubt it's that practical, your money though.

Your sub total comes to roughly R 12200.00 x 10% for my US = R 13400.00 x 14% customs = R 15054.00 total. i am not sure the weight of the items by i would imagine close to 5kg's possibly closer to 10kg's so add another 150-300 dollars for shipping. So let's say the total comes to R 16500.

Now add the mission of sending anything that breaks overseas and i do not see the saving marine. I do not think it is very clever importing the items you are wanting to. You will not be saving that much

There is not going to be a huge difference in price.

Not all parts are identical, so even if you add another 1.5k on for more expensive parts it makes no sense to import in my opinion. Not cheaper and if something breaks hello courier fees. The biggest problem importing all this stuff is the 14% from customs and with all these goodies the weight will send the courier fees through the roof.

I've only been charged customs on finished goods as a whole i.e. Zunes(PMPs), phones and laptops.
All my PC parts I've gotten so far just get charged an amount of about R55, maybe that's just my luck and that I don't use myUS.

+1

P.S. Laptops usually have international warranties, got a click of death with my 1201N and got it swapped out at the Sandton branch in a couple of hours.

Actually no, only Asus and some of the IBM Thinkpad series offer international warranties as well as of course Apple. Dell/Alienware, Hp, Fujitsu, Toshiba, Sony, etc all give you a lovely smile and the finger should you bring them a machine from out of the country. It sucks, but that's the reality.

Oh, and the 14% isn't import tax, it's VAT, which you WILL be charged for on the total cost, including shipping.

Ok had a look, and yes it may come to R16k but the specs are much greater than what you posted.
The graphics you linked to - is that any good that card compared to the one I posted?
The MB is not usb 3 or Sata 6gb
The hard drive is not Sata 6gb
And no CPU

The cpu is there, even so marine like i said add all the correct parts together it will cost around the same.

Now there is no point importing something you can get here for the same price, when something breaks say goodbye to it for 2 weeks if not longer. Imagine your mobo goes, then you must ship it half way across the world and back. So even if all the bits cost 1k more it still would not be worth it IMO.

I gave you a rough estimate i mean that psu i put there is 2.4k you can get it cheaper, just used one site.

Go look through prices on different online stores and find the exact parts. You can import no problem but for me it is not worth it considering you save very little and will have to mission if something breaks, also the card you put down is exactly the same bar the logo :D. I could understand if the difference was 4-6k but not under a grand.

Like I said usually not always. VAT... I haven't been charged it on my PC parts on numerous occasions(basically all).

Not trying to be funny, but I seriously doubt that. I've imported a lot of goods and I always get charged VAT. Sometimes there's additional duty depending on what I'm getting in as well.

Also, AsusTek SA told me that they won't honour warranty on items that wasn't purchased locally.

Maybe just my luck, touch wood.

Did ASUS say what exactly can't be swapped out? Saying anything is quite vague as I've recently gotten my ASUS 1201N repaired locally even though it was imported.
